scope for lever gun

I am thinking of swapping out the scope I have on my lever gun and looking for ideas on which scopes I should consider. I am not buying some high dollar scope to shoot 100 yards, so keep that in mind.

Vortex had some good budget options, Burris as well.

I was all about the Vortex Diamondback series for a while, but they don't seem to track well when adjusting. And I've had a couple fail to hold zero recently. So far, for a budget option, I've been happy with the Sig Whiskey series.

I would consider the caliber. I went with Vortex PST for my 45-70 marlin. Was a bit worried about a cheaper one losing zero more easily.

Also if you’re looking to save money, you can look for used scopes on eBay. Leupold or Vortex have excellent warranties, so on the off chance you buy something with issues, you could still have it fixed or replaced.

Pretty happy with my Arken scope. Give them a look.

I have a Leupold VX3 1-4x20 on my 30-30. I think it's perfect for it.

I like shooting my Marlin 336CS with buckhorn sights up to 100 yards. If your eyes are still good to do so, that is. It’s also visually appealing without a scope mounted on it.

I ended up putting a low power scope on my Henry 30-30 because I will shoot it past 100… but my 1894 is sweet for 100 yds with a William’s peep.

I really like a 2-7x32 on my pop guns. Currently using a VX3i 2.5-8x36 which is sexy as hell, but i used a 2-7x32 Nikon for a decade until my 375 h&h broke it. Good scope from 5 yards to 300 yards.
Since nikons out of the scope game now, I'd probably get a leupold rifleman 2-7 or 1-4 for a budget rig.

I put a Leupold Vx2 2-7x32 on my 35 Rem and 3030. They are both marlin 336.
My BLR’s both have Vx3 3.5-10x40.

I’ve been debating on doing this for a little while, while my eyes are still good enough. Really debating on a peep sight, but I enjoy having a scope so I can identify a set of horns better and not have to fumble with binoculars. Scopes are very useful for that even at closer distances in some thicker brush and shite.
I don’t get many opportunities to shoot a buck that I want to take each year, so I don’t want identification to limit me.

I use a Burris 2-7 Scout scope with an XS Scout mount on a Marlin 1895. It’s fast and the intermediate eye relief gives plenty of room for your eyes to be safe from the recoil of full house 45-70 loads. I used to use it for running deer dogs, now I just like to slip around real slow in thick stuff. That has been really handy for fast shots on close encounters, as well as enough zoom for some longer shots from a stand if needed. A Burris 1x was super fast but a deer at 100 yds away looked like half a mile through the scope.

I have a Burris 1.75x5x20mm on my 1970 Marlin 336 30-30. It’s worked as expected since 1988.

Burris RT 1-6x24 is a fantastic option as well. I put one on my 35 REM (336) and love it.

i have my grandfather's old 30-30 lever action. I'd love to put a scope on it because its fun to shoot, but its top ejecting. Anyone ever done anything like this?

Your "if your eyes are still good" comment is spot on!
I shot my old Savage 99 this weekend. I started at the 35 yard target I use for sighting in 22's and the group was just under 1/2" measured with calipers - that's 1.5 MOA from a lever gun! But... at 100 yds the group was more like 6"!

I was lucky if I was shooting 12" groups with my '94 at 100 yards. I put a Skinner breech mounted peep on and now I'm at 2-3" groups with it. I couldn't see for sh*t with the buckhorns.
