Gaetti said CM helped out his family after Katrina.

Dad was a navy veteran and lost his DD214 forms in the floodwaters during Katrina.

Went to Melancons satellite office and just so happened to meet him personally. Said my dad would get the forms before the end of the week.

We got them the next day

You are right though Tigah!

I wasn't expecting to hear any info on the misappropriation of BP funds, it's not surprising to me knowing the other really shady stuff that was going on with the Fisheries department that was outlined pretty well in Barfs article in the red snapper thread.

I agree with frekinchessie who said go after Nungesser too!

Lot of that shite happened after BP and it was wrong and should be pursued.

Theres more waste at that department then in any gov agency Ive ever seen. Buying boat after boat after boat, and barely any money to maintain them. It was a joke when I worked there.

Barham was also a huge douche.

New people came into LDWF, the new regime was told about the issues from people not appointed from the old regime, an investigation was started, and you are now seeing some of the stuff come to light.

Ok. I know this is probably a dumb-arse question, and I know zilch about saltwater boats etc.... But could you saltwater guys tell me the reasoning for the outer Verado's on those boats having shorter lower units?

To be fair, dropping shite like that on the internet after someone told you in confidence would be dumb on my part, but whatever. The council thing was something separate. Either way I thought the trailer park boys meme was funny. Carry on.

I ain't mad either way, knowing something was up atleast painted the picture that the transition wasn't all roses. I'm not particularly shocked to learn someone in Jindal's administration was playing fast and loose with BP money, I just hope it all gets cleaned up and we stop hearing the same old excuses for why things can't get done.

I dont think this investigation is stemming around the metal shark boats those are enforcement and patrol boats..I think the boats they are referring to are the Freeman, Sea Vee, and bay boats that were all labelled fisheries research.

I think the way the program was developed and money was used was not thought completely through. I agree that WLF needed a research boat for sampling but 1M in boats and gear, throw in lodging, fuel and other expenses..it adds up. I think there could have been more cost effective approach and probably got a better sampling by spreading the task.

This is for you and Barf, what do you think comes of it? Barham is quick to say it's not a criminal investigation. Seems like it's backing up the decision to oust Pausina and a few others but beyond that it's not really clear.

Yeah, I find it kind of absurd that they are witch-hunting in WLF instead of CPRA. A CPRA investigation would probably unravel the entire sweater if they started pulling threads.

The distance from the transom to the bottom of the hull is shorter. It's not that the outer motors need shorter shafts, it's that the inner motors need longer shafts to get the prop below the hull.

And he was the only secretary that had the backbone to tell Jindal to frick off when he started trying to pilfer funds he had no legal right to take.

This seems correct.

The nature of the BP flow of money contributed to it, as well. There was the big initial inflow of cash that the state was expected to use. This was similar to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. They dump a bunch of money into agencies and expect them to spend quickly. This, for all intents and purposes, causes controls to be ignored. It also means that some things are not totally thought through.

They should be forced to sell that Freeman to me at auction.

A couple of weeks ago I would have said someone was going to jail. I am a lot less hopeful now.

State government has a funny way of working. Someone "misused" funds and lost their job, State gov would like to think that is enough. The system obviously worked if they lost their job

Where it starts getting muddy is the intended allocation of those misused funds and where those funds came from. We feel like we have been wronged, and rightfully so. State gov would tell you that money was never intended to go anywhere near the public so it's not our fight to fight. That is kind of where they are at right now from what I understand.

One more thing that's going on is the appropriation of that $2.5m or so generated by the saltwater license increase. Where is that money? It was supposed to go to stock assessments, but Charlie Meloncon says we don't have the money, so it's obviously gone somewhere. A fee increase was voted into law, not a tax. When money is taken away from an agency that was generated by fees paid directly to the agency, it becomes a tax. That is illegal.
