The shooter is 70 years old with no previous criminal record. Something is wrong here.

No clue, bro. I’m not a duck hunter. But reading that forum, sounds like there are constant fights at the boat ramps.
It’s like a big ole Sonic.

The 26 year old who was killed is the local Chief of Police’s son.

I don't think we will ever know the full story. Absolutely horrible these folks died from an altercation while duck hunting.
I hate to talk bad about these dead young men, but I have to believe there is more to the story than hunting this old man's blind or shooting at swing ducks.

I keep hearing bad blood between the two boys and the old man existed for some time. Will be interesting to hear the backstory.

Same here...
Apparently this guy is a frickin Senior Olympic Champion swimmer and grew up on that lake.
I have a feeling they’ll only find him if he wants to be found.
This story is crazy.

I went on a 2 day hunting trip there a few years ago between Christmas and New Years. Over the course of both days I picked up my gun zero times. There were very few ducks around and nothing came close to the blind.
The Baws I was hunting with had 3 private blinds. They explained that many years ago TWRA grandfathered in private blinds. The agreement made was that a name had to be put on the blind as owner and once that person was deceased the blind then belonged to the state. Their Dad had put all 3 siblings on as blind owners while they were in high school. These guys are now in their 60s.
Once the state takes ownership of the blind they tear it down or put it into the yearly lottery draw.
I've never attended the lottery draw but I'm told the guides throw around big $$ to get added on as owners of the best drawn blinds. I've also been told the smart guides have moved off the lake to pit blinds between the lake and the MS river.

Old man is dead. Probly the first to die. Killed by survivor when he showed up at blind. Shooter claims self defense, Chief's son says they gotta call law in. Big argument. Survivor shoots remaining two. Hauls one back in "attempt" to save.
How many here leave a shot buddy behind?

There are only 2 survivors. One is missing, and one is critical in the hospital, right?
from what i understand keeping up with the story, the 3rd guy was uninjured. The early reports of someone being in critical condition was later deceased.

Well there we have it fellas. The dumbest shite you're likely to read today

Well if true that certainly explains all the different rumors, dramatically changes things, and creates a ton of new questions.

The news is saying there is a witness, but I'm not sure if they mean the 3rd guy hunting with them or someone else. A true 3rd party would be interesting, and it sounds like the blinds are close enough that its very likely someone else did witness the entire thing.

I read that the witness is the surviving duck hunter that was in the blind. There were no 3rd party witnesses mentioned in the article.

Zachery Grooms (left) and Chance Black were shot and killed Monday morning at Reelfoot Lake in Obion County, Tennessee.
District Attorney General Tommy Thomas, who serves Tennessee's 27th judicial district, said investigators found a boat belonging to Vowell Tuesday. They also towed away a vehicle belonging to Vowell at the Blue Basin Cove Lodge on Reelfoot Lake.
"I know his family," Thomas said "We're satisfied he has no kill criminal history, but of course that's really irrelevant as far as where we are at this point."
Lodge owner Jerry Jones Jr. said you could find Vowell's boat docked at the lodge almost every day. Jones has known Vowell for more than 40 years.
"It is confusing," Jones said. "I wasn't out there. All I know are the rumors of what happened. You know, it's still hard to believe that this kind of stuff could happen."
State and local law enforcement officers have been searching for Vowell since Monday. Jones said the crime Vowell's accused of doesn't sound like the man he knows.
"In my head and my soul, I believe he’s a good fella. I don’t know what happened," Jones said.
Thomas said investigators told him Vowell approached the boat of the two victims, and an argument started. The two men were out duck hunting on the lake with a third man named Jeffery Crabtree, who witnessed the shooting. Thomas said Crabtree took the gun away from Vowell, and then took the victims for help.
Jones said he never saw Vowell return to his vehicle or dock his boat. He also didn't hear the shooting.
"He's the kind of person who would pick up any kid on the side of the road and take them hunting," Jones said about Vowell. "Those juvenile hunts, he'd have a whole boatload of children that he takes out there hunting."
One of the victims, Chance Black, was a full-time manager in the gun department of Final Flight South Fitters in Obion County. Black was the son of the chief deputy of the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department, county officials said.

Who knew that Jerry Jones Jr had an affinity for duck hunting and owned a lodge in Tn?
