This thread isn't helping him narrow it down at all
Probably because 700 for a .22 gives a ton of great options. OP is going to have to figure out what is really important to him. Accuracy or fun/plinking. go with a bolt for tackdriver or lever/ 10-22 for fun.

Indeed it is. 4lsu2jr has one in the safe that was left to him by EJW.

awesome lever action .22. Very accurate and just a ton of fun to shoot.

I have a ruger 10-22 take down that I really like. I honestly have not figured out a good scope for it since the one I have doesn't fit in the bag it comes with so I have to take it off and put it back on. Even with the quick release it isn't completely accurate. I use it for grouse hunting and I am usually close enough it doesn't matter that it is just a tad off.

Saw another at the lgs that I never researched.....
22 tcm.
I could get behind this round but it looks like Armscor is the only manufacturer of factory ammo. Interesting round.

I love mine, they are great .22's. Another good .22 is the Remington 552 Speedmaster.
Both are classics.

Love my Speedmaster. Very accurate.

Haven't seen it mentioned but Right to Bear has some built dedicated 22 uppers for ar15s. Do you have a AR lower? If so you can just slap it on and roll. If not you can get a built lower from Palmetto state fairly cheap. I don't know how accurate they are...I have a 16" version being delivered Monday. I also have a un built 9" and 4.4" barrel for future
projects.
Also with a 22 on the AR platform it doesn't need a buffer tube so you can put a pic rail adapter on and run a sig folding brace with the 4.4" or 9" for a small little package.
They just started selling built uppers...this is the one I got. I had bought parts to build the shorter ones before they sold them built.

Ruger 10/22. Don’t get the breakdown model. Throw the Nikon rimfire scope on there. Buy you a benchmade knife with the leftover $250.
Why did people downvote this 0-6?
Seems to be a very popular 22lr.
I'm also in the market for a 22lr rifle but at a much lower budget than OP, researching the ruger 10/22 seems like a not-bad choice. So I'm curious about all the downvotes to that suggestion.

Because the breakdown model is awesome

i dont know, but my vote goes to the cheapest 22 that has a threaded barrel and a 22 suppressor.
Sure I love my cz, but I love it a million times more with the suppressor.

lol, yes and when someone types out .22 they mean any of those?
I forgot my army buddies meant .223 one time and I showed up with .22 rim fire. Come on now...I was mostly joking in my first post btw.

RD,
If you're thinking of a semi-auto, I'd suggest the Ruger 10/22. It's a classic w/ a huge number of after market accessories. Star w/ the stock barrel. If it's not accurate enough get a new barrel. If you get a new barrel, you can spend "not much" or "a whole lot." I spent "not much" w/ my Feddersen barrel and have been very pleased. My factory barrel w/ very accurate, but I wanted it threaded and a new barrel was not much cheaper (and more convenient) that getting it threaded
If you want a bolt, I'd get a Tikka T1x. For some time I'd been wanting a bolt 22LR from CZ. I wanted a model 457 w/ the "Americanized" safety, but it wasn't available w/ the features I wanted (20" threaded barrel and synthetic stock) so I bought the Tikka. It's been VERY accurate, commonly shooting 1" groups of 5 shots at 100 yards w/ non-match ammo.
T1x at 50 yds w/ 4-12x Vortex Copperhead.

Nope, that’s the regular Carbine model. This is the take-down:

I have the A17 because it’s a nice semi auto .17 that there was not a lot of. I’d get a Ruger 10/22 over the savage because that is the OG in that style. If I had a 10/22 I might would look at the savage 22lr. I would get the A22 mag version before the LR with a 10/22 in the safe.
