Europeans and Americans do some things differently. Rifle safeties are one of those things. The American safety (and the 457) is pushed forward to deactivate the safety, getting it ready to shoot. The European safety (and the 455 included) moves backwards to fire. I've got grandkids that I hope to take shooting.
Yeah when I picked up the 455 I actually had to get the store owner to work the safety the first time. It was and is still the stiffest safety I’ve ever seen - and like you said, backwards. I’m not fond of that either but my boy is 13 and he and I both are really enjoying how good this thing shoots.
The Ruger is grouping great now and see why so many folks like it. I wouldn’t have even thought about paying full price for it, but the accuracy that I’m getting with it would justify it for sure. I just have several older budget 22’s (like the old Remington 522 viper) that I just assumed that the Ruger would be along that line and it’s 1000x better that the pos viper.

I just picked up my ruger american rimfire 22lr, and the CCI 22 subsonic rounds with the "cleanfire" or whatever coating, salesman talked me into it.
I have fired off a few rounds into the backyard and it shoots straight, relatively quiet, has the feel of a quality rifle, overall I'm satisfied with my purchase, although it's way too early to give it a full review.
The local shop had it $299, but I found online $179 and paid them the transfer fee.
Thanks yall for the recommendation. Now I'm heading out to the lake with it, there is a wind advisory so I hope I don't have another boating accident. You never know.
