Does anyone have a link to laws defining if a pier or dock in a public lake connected to private property is truly private property?

Most are permitted and imo are private. What’s the problem? I fish many docks on cal during the day and have never had a problem. Fished Prien socks at night and asked permission and never encroached into the owners space.

You can fish it but you can’t get on it or tie up to it.

Not sure about LA, but on the TN river a dock is public whether it’s privately built or not.

I've always assumed this was the case anywhere that I've fished. Never had a problem, other than a few people turning off their light on me.

On False River the pier is private property as it's an extension of the person's property, the water surrounding it is public tho. You can fish all you want around it but can't do anything with the pier itself (get on, fish from, even tie up to since it's someone else's without their consent)

Make sure you don't snag anything on the pier with your treble hooks.

You can fish the pier but ripping the seat on someone's jet ski is not cool.

When I am by myself I fish piers. When I am with my kids I don't.

And by pier I mean docks.

Had that happen a few times.

Was fishing the north end of big lake at night over 10 years ago with my brother. A guy came out and apologized for not having all of his lights on. Invited us on to his dock and we smoked a bowl with him. He tried to finger my brother but whatever we caught fish.

Did he try to finger your brother before or after y’all caught fish? I couldn’t concentrate on fishing with someone trying to shove a finger up my arse.

Call your state fishing authority and talk to them, like TN would be TWRA.

Most neighboring property owners with docks don't think that though, they think they have more rights than they do with that permit.

I don't tend to test the land owners though. Just not to be a dick or get some nutjob come after me.

The pier is private, the water underneath is public.

That bitch would have caught a treble hook to the dome.

Louisiana the water is public and you can fish it. The pier itself is private and can only be used for mooring(tie up) and access when seeking safe harbor from inclement weather.

lol I could probably drop a pin on the exact camp if things haven't built up too much since then.
