Anyone have any recommendations for what to add to a rotomold cooler purchased in the last year that would keep a vacuum from forming to easily open said cooler?

Considering just drilling a small hole in it...

I read about a fix for Yeti's where you put a small piece of gasket tape on the seam of the gasket. It's supposedly just enough to keep it from getting an air tight seal.

Does anyone make a redesigned plug or would that cause water to leak in an undesirable location?

Yes there are replacement plugs out there with pressure release functions. Google it and there should be some options.

I'd try giving the customer service department a call and see if they have any recommendations for you.

I have one of these, but it tends to leak. I ended up just putting the original plug back in.

When I gave them a call they suggested running it through a sawmill and turning it into faux hardwood.

But rather than do that I stuck a piece of wire between the gasket and mating surface. Even the tiniest of air leaks will solve your problem.
