The sport has changed. All these young anglers that grew up using electronics are thriving. The old hats that used their baits, flashers, on the water knowledge are being phased out. Just different times no matter what side you are on.

go to bassmaster.com and check out the pictures of Fothergill fishing...

I see a market for neck braces coming as he's staring down at the screen all the time...

I understand that there will be tournaments where ffs is banned from use...be interesting to see how the ffs gurus do in those tournaments...like the guy that was leading a tournament after day one then had his unit go out and was totally lost for the rest of the tournament...

I know plenty of 55-75 year old men that are using livescope these days. I don't think this is a valid excuse.

I don't know what the answer is, all these guys are using them privately. Its not like its an advantage only professionals have.

Should we go back to foot controlled trolling motors, no power poles, and no depth finders? I agree livescope is in its own category but where do you call it?

I'm shocked more states wildlife management divisions don't get more involved, for instance lighted nocks on bows, trailcams, etc. are not allowed.

The sport is being allowed to change by not having any limits on technology. There are tons of "improvements" that can be made in other sports that were banned, like better equipment, balls, engine and car mods etc. Problem is in fishing the cat is out of the bag. If you start putting it back in where do you stop. Just FFS, or 360, or side scan/Di? What about navionics and lake mapping? Spot lock etc. It is time to look at limits on this stuff especially with AI advancements. A trolling motor could probably be made now that you could hit a button on any lake and the TM would search for the species you want to fish for. That's not what I think the "sport" should be, but I don't have a dog in the hunt.

Same. It's way harder than people think and requires more patience than I have.

this seems so weird.

"hey BASS rules guy, I'm using FFS live scope, that ok, right?"

"yep, ok kid. You can use that. all good."

"awesome"

Kids wins.

I couldn’t care less about the “is it fishing” argument, if they all have access to the same tech then it’s a level playing field, and it does take some skill to use.

Well, its not fishing IMO.

But if its legal you are only putting yourself at a disadvantage for not using it.

And that sentence right there is why it should be banned. You've got guys who use aluminum boats. You've got guys who use this brand of this or that brand of that. Really the big guys don't care about brand all that much generally... if another sponsor offers more they will switch even if they've used Zoom or whatever their entire lives because it doesn't put them at a disadvantage. I would argue FFS isn't optional for anglers at this point. People who succeed without it are the exception, not the rule.

It needs to be banned in general as well because people are absolutely wiping out Crappie with it. Its bad for the ecosystem to be able to sit on a sunk tree and catch every single fish on it.

2-3 years ago or whenever they came out, I'd agree.

In 2025 if you are tournament fishing and don't know what advantage FFS gives you I'm not sure what can really be said. As said above I think plenty of guys don't have it and just know they aren't going to be placing and are just fishing for fun.

My friend that was a longtime guide on Toledo Bend quit and went into an entirely different line of work. He’d bust his arse putting out brush piles and have the weekend warriors follow his boat, mark their gps and go back with their FFS and wipe out the brush pile. There’s fishing pressure, but this ain’t that. There won’t be a fishery left in short order at this rate

A week or two ago I was drinking coffee and watching the professionals bass fish. They are all just looking at the screen as soon as the lure hits the water.

I don't care if people use FFS personally. I personally don't because I don't like that style of fishing but that's just me.

I do NOT think it is appropriate for competition. There are plenty of restrictions on how to obtain tips and information about a body of water, live bait, Alabama rigs on some bodies of water and on some crappie tournaments, the number of poles you can have out.

FFS is a style of fishing that I do not think coincides with the intended spirit of the sport.

Ffs is the crossbow debate of fishing. Who gets to draw the line?

Does the compound bow guy get to look down on the crossbow guy? Does the sidescan or 360 guy get to look down on the ffs guy?

If so does the long bow guy get to look down on the compound bow guy? Does the 2d guy look down on the side scan guy?

Who gets to be the moral authority?

Btw I don’t have the answer and I can’t ffs to save my life.

I will also add ffs is taking the heat for the mess that is pro bass fishing. However it was the mess on tour that shifted the game in a bad direction before ffs.

The mlf/bass/flw fallout was way worse for tournament fishing than ffs

They will bomb those events. The kid who’s live scope went out at the bassmaster event couldn’t sniff a bite after

The same people that bitch about FFS have no problem putting out deer feeders and cameras. What's the difference?

As long as everyone fishing the tournament can use, I don't see a problem. I've had one since the original Lowrance Spotlight POS. You still have to get them to bite but i don't waste time where there aren't fish anymore.
