If you rack your shotgun to let the people in your house know you have a gun, all you are doing is letting someone who doesn't know the layout of your house know exactly where you are.

They may run but are more likely to spray and pray hitting you in the process.

I have all 3 M4, ARs and pistols.

I will always grab the AR 1st.

Maybe, if you don't have kids or close neighbors. It's one thing to take down the perp but if you have a stray bullet hit your kid or a neighbor then you are up shite creek.

I have brick walls outside as do all my neighbors and an AR won't penetrate more than buckshot or pistol rounds.

What is a FMJ?

Full Metal Jacket. Its ball ammo, in other words it penetrates and doesn't expand.

it's only one out of our dozens that's in 300blk. We built one out in sbr way back when they were the rage. Ain't good for shite else.

ETA: I was driving when I read that and didn't see the bold letters, I thought you were saying the 300 blk was bait. It gets plenty of hate so I just arse-u-med

I keep an old 30 "double barrel 16 gauge Stevens in the closet ready for action. After the first 2 shots, I can use it to beat down any intruder.

Even the best semi auto short barrel shotgun (read: M4) is so vastly more difficult to effectively use than a basic ar15 and vastly more expensive.
you aren’t wrong…. But it’s so much fun to shoot.

Plus out of any gun I have, I know that one will go bang

Youth pump 20g with extended mag.

Short barrel for inside and anyone including wife can shoot it.

I used to have a 1301. It was indeed extremely fun.

This is a fair point, I need a Pistol. I do work in rough areas some times.

But my Benelli Supernova is two steps from the bed in my closet, then another two steps to a vantage point at the top of the stairs. I figure most intruders this side of the Mossad or KGB would not make it past the locks, security, loud arse dogs, etc.. by the time I get Mr. 12 gauge out.

I said m4 because it’s one of the most badass guns

But if someone broke into my house, the first gun I’m grabbing is my .suppressed 300 blk with a surefire on the front

Don’t even need to load the shotgun. Just the sound of it racking is enough. And if you do shoot it, you don’t even have to aim bc it’s a shotgun.

For home invasion the criminal will be within 15 feet likely. I know tons of people that will miss with a pistol from that distance, don’t know many bot connecting with a shotgun I’ve seen actual people who are comfortable with handling a gun that wouldn’t inflict damage from 15 feet with a pistol. Your average person is going to completely miss the human body often A shotgun they will be ending the threat almost every single time

This makes sense to me

I don’t know where some of these people live or why they think so many people want to take them out.

I’ve wondered the same
If I need 30 rounds of .223 for home defense then I pissed off the wrong cartel. My Glock 20 with hollow point 10mm really oughta be enough.

I own all three... in my own personal case, first thing I would reach for inside my house is a pistol. Sig P226 with a mag of Gold Dot hp.

I've heard all the reasons to use a shotgun (and I have both a Shockwave and a standard 18" police riot gun), and an AR (and I have a 11'5" "pistol").
All worth considering. After reviewing them, I will still reach for the pistol first.

There's no right or wrong answer, only what works best for your own situation.

And as someone may have alluded to, don't think the shotgun makes it "point in that general direction and you get a hit", it isn't that way at all. The Shockwave is a pain in the arse to actually aim and still keep your teeth. The riot gun with a shoulder stock is much better, but you still need to be on target to hit.
