I know an old man that had a gunsmith shop for years. He keeps telling me about how much he likes the Rock Isl 1911

Don't forget the Stoeger Cougar. It was a Beretta before the Px4.

i wanted one for a while but changed my mind after handling one a bit. it's big and heavy and abnormally loud.

I don't mind the noise, but the weight issue worries me.

I can vouch for the Sig 2022. I carry a CZ75 and highly recommend it over the plastic guns, though.

Skip the Taurus. It should be way down the list.

This. I have the Tactical version of this and it shoots like a dream. I literally haven't been able to get it to fail.

I have a S&W Sigma 9mm and love it. Cabelas has them for $349.

They get a lot of hate, but that's a perfect truck gun

I like a 6" .357 mag for a truck gun. Tons of arse without having a flashbang grenade go off in your face like a short barreled revolver.

I don't like the idea of trusting my life to a semi automatic handgun.

I know they get a lot of hate but it's a pretty good gun. And I'm willing to bet that most of the people that are gonna hate have never shot one (but they know how to read message boards that say they're crappy). When I was looking for the price on the cabelas website i noticed the reviews. There are 25 5 star and 4 1 star. I went through them skipping the 5 star ones to read the worst reviews. The biggest problem that people have is that they are inaccurate and "can't hit a target/barn/whatever". I find this laughable considering I've never owned a pistol before (and never really shot one other than at the camp or at water jugs in the field) and I shoot fairly decent with it. I've used it in competition matches and let's just say I'm not embarrassing myself out there.

I've shot one in 40 and liked it. Was fairly accurate with it. The trigger was nasty but it didn't affect my shooting too much. I would consider it for a truck gun if I was looking for a semi on a budget. It's certainly better than nothing.

The most accurate I've ever shot a semi was with a beretta M9. Pretty sweet gun IMO. I don't see them get mentioned much.

Don't want to hijack, but I have been pondering for a month about what new pistol I want to buy

Springfield Range Officer 1911

or

Smith and Wesson M&P Full Size 9mm w/ streamlight tlr-1

I currently own a G17, but I seriously have been trying to choose for almost a month. Every time I almost buy one, like about to click "buy", I change my mind.

My list of handguns I want is about 6 revolvers long before it gets to a 1911

The M9 would get a lot more love of it wasn't so damn big. It is a great pistol though, one of my good friends has one, but for that size weapon I would much rather a 1911

I had never shot a M9 until our first pistol qual a few months back; shot expert.

Can't say I would buy one but I have no problem using one as a back up.
