If I had to have a semi it would be a 1911 absolutely no questions asked.
So the size of the M9 is what people don't like about it? I personally did like layout of the gun a little better than a 1911, but it was a little less "pointable"

Those two pistols are pretty different. You should be able to decide based on what your going to be using it for or if nothing else, price. The 9 is half the price to buy and a little more than half to shoot.
The 1911 is obviously better looking, ergonomics and function, stopping power etc.
That's not the 1911 I would choose, but if money is no issue, go with the superior gun.

It's a pretty big pistol, it's about the size of a full size 5" 1911. I like the way the M9 feels and shoots but for that size gun I would rather a 1911.

I shot the M9 and a springfield range officer that day. As terrible as it is to say I think I may have like the M9 more strictly from the point of which would I rather go to war with.

I can understand that, with the tight tolerances of a 1911 it can get some grit in it and shut it down, however it is a tried and true military weapon

Neo liked him some Beretta 92s

Drive two hours to Huntsville and go to Larry's Pistol and Pawn. He has a couple of Sig p220 that are Police dept trade in for $450. I know you are thinking that these guns are wore out but they are in mint condition. This is one of the best made handguns in the world you would have to be a competition shooter to wear one out. He also has a few Glock trade ins for $350. Might want to call and confirm before driving. They sell pretty quick. Larry's

What's the difference in that and the M9? They look exactly the same.

Looks like the 92FS compact would still allow 3 fingers on the grip.

Figures. An M45 would be pretty awesome.

Is there such a thing as a SA/DA 1911? The only thing I don't like about the 1911 is the SA only.
Posted on 4/17/12 at 8:30 pm to DownshiftAndFloorIt
No. You probably made someone break something just asking that. Even the update-the Hi-Power is SA.
Want the next step in the family with DA/SA? Look at CZ's lineup.

I gasp and recoil in horror that you say this...
I think there was a DA 1911 look alike made but I don't remember the details.

Yea I know. I love single action, just not for self defense.

I've never shot one. I do like the way they feel though.
As I said earlier, I have about 6 different revolvers I want before I would ever buy a semi-auto pistol. The only exception would be a .22

That hurt my mind reading that! I absolutely love single action, I guess that goes back to my comp days

What 1911s do you like? I have only fired the Springfield, a Kimber custom II, and an STI Spartan. I liked the Springfield best.
I'll probably carry whatever I buy, but for lots of target shooting i'll stick to my glock.
I swear though, after firing a 1911 for the first time I understand why people swear by them. The feel of the grips, the smooth action, god it was great.
