I go there. I am not a Veteran or a former Police officer. So because of that I have to pay 10 dollars to use the Range. I can afford 10 dollars. Not the point.
I have all the respect in the world for Veterans and former officers. But I have a Driver's license to prove my Ouachita Parish Residency. Which means I paid to biuld that facility. Why do I have to pay 10 dollars to use something I paid for?
If everybody had to pay, Okay. But, they do not make enough money at 10 dollars from me and others to support that place and again my taxes do. Especially my property taxes.
Curious what you think. I have never said anything to anyone at the facility. I would not do that.

I have to drive north of Delhi an hour away.

What you did was make the mistake of thinking the government works for the citizens. If you can find out, let me know how many employees the Parish of Ouachita has laid off in any of the recent past recessions. Without looking I think I can probably guess. 0.

I've only used it for the archery range, which is pretty nice. I'm a veteran but I had to show them on their own website that I get to use the facility for free. I had to do that twice. The third time they were on top of it.
That being said, how is the rifle range? I have a 30-06 I need to sight in. Any specific rules I need to know about the place? Bring my own target sheet, type of rounds, etc.? Thanks!

Your taxes paid for the veterans’ and cops’ livelihoods as well.

You can bring your own target sheets. Only problem is they stop to frequently to check sites. I use the pistol end so that doesn't bother me. But if I have to sight in a rifle I would use a long range spotting scope. And stop shooting and let all those people walk to see target.

The Claiborne parish jail in Homer is a private shooting range, I learned that lesson the hard way.

I pay $100 a year to go to the OPSO range. It’s an outstanding facility that’s well maintained and managed and because it’s covered it’s open in all types of weather. It has a variety of distances for long guns and a variety of distances for handguns. They even have a shotgun area if you want to shoot clays. They also host friendly competitions with all types of vintage firearms etc. They host 4-H shooting events. The regulars are cordial, and very willing to help those just getting started in the shooting sports. It’s a great facility that’s very affordable and we’re lucky to have it.

I pay $125/yr for myself and the bride. For what I have access to I consider it a hell of a bargain.

100 and 200yd. They provide targets and sandbags. Will drive you in the golf cart if you go to 200yds.

To question the use fees for non-heroes makes you unpatriotic, at least that’s the goal.

I wish more counties would let the public use the LEO ranges

Maybe it us paid for outta the sheriff budget.
They don’t let us drive the squad cars or go eat at the prison. If it is a well equipped range it costs some money. A perk to law enforcement seems ok

The range is located at the OPSO training facility, which is also shared with other law enforcement agencies throughout the region. They also have an outdoor track and workout area, free to the public.

They have a 50 cal mounted on a damn hummer. Decent range.

Lafourche Parish is $10 and I think Terrebonne is either free or $5.
If I want to shoot my pistol I just go in back pasture, if I want to shoot a long gun I go to the Lafourche Parish range. Only problem is that only open on the weekends, so if I want yo go after work I'm SOL.

Well, those veterans wrote a blank check to protect your right to go to that range, the least you can do is pay 10 bucks and not complain about it.
