State re-opens waters to recreational fishing

Associated Press Reporting

After hearing that every oyster, fish, shrimp and crab taken in Louisiana waters has tested safe to eat, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission has voted to open
most state waters to recreational fishing.

Heavily oiled areas and those where booming operations or cleanup is going on remain closed.

Robert Barham, secretary of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, told the commission Wednesday that fish in Louisiana waters are safe. He said hundreds of samples have been taken since the federal govermment set standards for dispersants and oil - and all are well within safe limits.

He said federal labs have those samples, and he's hoping for a federal OK to reopen commercial fishing in state waters within eight days.

The commission's voice vote was unanimous

Fwiw, some of you boys need to learn how to measure a fish. Mouth CLOSED, measure from the entire length of the fish from end to end... Not an inch after he starts. It it was going to make a difference I'd have to actually look at that last bass and figure out what length he is... I'd say 19 1/4 judging from the pic. C'maw guys, u are better than that

Drop it to 19.5 then. I still have a pound and a half on the other bass though. Will update Sunday after I put a 6+ in the boat.

i was thinking of claiming his as mine when i saw it

I think you need to add snapper, tuna, and amberjack to the rodeo!
