I don't know anything ab that... I'm guessing it has something to do with closures and catch and release? I saw them bitching on LAS ab that

Yes that is it ,that and the fact that there has been no data suggesting contamination in over 500 fish tested.

Figured. Why are they only getting pissed and taking action now that lake p is closed? I don't think contamination is going to occur now. I think it's going to take some time
once it gets added to the food chain, that's when it'll occur...

Yea typically with bass, when they are long and skinny, that means they are overpopulated with little food supply

we have decided to start keeping more than we throw back. the smaller fish actually look healthier than the bigger ones.

plus, there are sacalait in that pond and they will eventually take over.

bingo.

After talking with the fisheries biologist that did all of the work on our pond, his recommendation to keep numbers (and size) where you want it is to take 20 bass under 12" out per acre per year.

This gives you the upper end size, still a good stock of middle range fish, and of course your fry. He also recommends a 10/1 stocking ratio. We stocked 100 bass to 1,000 bluegill.

Hope that helps with your pond questions.

get 'em outta there!

This fricktard that eventually fricked up our pond because he built his dam up (which subsequently broke) stocked STRIPER in a 1 1/2 acre pond. So when the dam busted, we got all of them.

I was on a mission for a good month specifically targeting stripers in our pond. Haven't caught one in quite a while... I think I got the vast majority of them.

Same deal as the sacs... they'll just take over everything.

thats good info. i have read alot on the lsu ag site. i love sacalait but they say keep them out of your small pond.

they are going to start digging another pond in the pasture soon and use the dirt to build up the road. going to have to study up for stocking.

yep. they eat everything in sight. even when you look at large reservoirs, they either typically have a good crappie population or a good bass population, not both. same with stripers vs. bass, etc.

Are you going strictly bass in the new pond that's being dug?

ETA: Let me rephrase that. Not strictly bass, but is bass going to be the primary target, or are you going to have cats, etc. in there?

we dug a mile and a half long slough, ab 50 yards wide on our property when I was a kid... Stocked it, no one fished it for 4 years... Imagine what it was like the first time those fish saw a bait...

I love places like that. When I was a kid, our property was completely surrounded by a 5,000 acre ranch. I'd grab my rod and reel and just set out to find a pond somewhere on the property. I found some ponds that probably hadn't been fished since the 50's or 60's (this was in the early-mid 90's). It was a good time.

They had an area in it where it got narrow in a curve and the beavers would dam it off and one side would get higher than the other... Ab once a week my dad would knock out the dam and take my mom back in about ab hour.... They would catch over a hundred bass in a couple hours... It's how he taught her to fish
