The catfish unhooker has been around forever, but one trick that most people don't know about that I will sware on, is if you do accidentally get stung by a catfish, you rub the slime off the belly area onto where you were stung. It takes away most of the sting and you will feel 10 times better in the long run.
Interesting

I saw a guy flip one and it stuck him in the top of his hand. I was so pissed a few weeks ago when I caught 3-4 on plastic.

I make it a point not to get finned by the bitches and use a flipper when I have it. Can't help stupid
Posted on 4/23/12 at 12:16 pm to The Sportsman
I am living proof of that
Posted on 4/23/12 at 12:51 pm to DownshiftAndFloorIt
I just grab it, unhook it, and throw it back.
I don't see the big deal

Use a flipper and your life will be forever changed

Everyone wants to be a badass. Seriously, though, I'd grab a 3 foot shark before I grab a 1 foot hardhead.

I was throwing a Paul Brown last year and hooked up to what I thought was a state record trout. Got it to the boat and it wasn't even a gafftop, damn hardhead ate my twitch bait. Needless to say, the bastard was bludgeoned

I can't get a good grip on those nasty fricks to save my life. I need to try one of these flippers
Posted on 4/23/12 at 1:06 pm to DownshiftAndFloorIt
So the only way to save yourself is to become bloodbrothers with them? Has Jeremy Wade been notified of this?

We "stumbled" into a feeding frenzy of large gafftops in Timbalier on day years ago. We thought it was a school of bull reds, so we wanted to catch a couple for the fight. Well, we ended up catching 6-10 pound gafftops on topwater for a couple hours.
So, has anyone tried eating a hardhead? I've heard people swear that it is second only to gafftops among catfishes.

Slime on a fish is actually there to protect them from various infections and disease. It looks sick but it's far from toxic.

Then some a-hole that doesn't know any better goes and nets a gafftop....
