I was looking at the BCM 11.5 milk with cold hammer forged barrel but see DSG ARMs is offering a complete pistol parts build kit minus reciever of the 11.5 for $685. All I would need is a lower to go. Nit sure what to get. Looking at options.

Got the Wilson 224 Valkyrie Barrel swapped out on my build. Took it out today for some range time. Shooting Federal 75Gr out to 200 yds with pretty good results in high wind. Zero’ day 100 yds and no drop out to 200. Have it setup with a sure fire RC2 can. It was really quiet with 20” barrel. My 12 yr old made a couple of head shots on a B27 at 200. It’s going to be his deer gun.

Finally though about a pic of the new AR-10

I know this is an AR-15 thread but have any of you built a bolt-action? Want to build a lightweight (~7lbs) 300 win mag with a 26” barrel. Have built several ARs just not sure where to start with the bolt actions.

I mean unless you want to build one just to build one that’s going overboard.
Also that 300winmag being as light as possible will kick like a muley. So just take that with a certain amount of care.
Tikka with a carbon fiber manners stock and chopped and threaded barrel to 24” for a can would be my go to (I can’t stand shooting unsuppressed anymore). The tikka barrels are good enough that it would be silly to spend money on another barrel. And the triggers don’t need fooling with.
The old Remington 700 used to be the way to go but you have to put a lot more work into them than the tikka.

Get a budget, if youre an OT baller then just say so.
You would probably need a carbon barrel and stock to meet your weight limit.
An easy route with no gunsmith would be:
Big Horn Action
Barrel from Patriot Valley Arms
Trigger of your choice
Stock/bottom metal of your choice
Scope/rings
Its not hard to put one together. A lot of these custom actions have tolerances so tight that gunsmiths can spin up barrels for them and you can torque them on.
Tools you will need:
Action wrench
Barrel Vise

My gunsmith has been raving about the Big Horns, he has me wanting to go that route over Defiance and Surgeon now

I have an origin. Currently have 4 barrels (7-08, 308,6.5 creed, 300 wsm). Just ordered a 223 bolt head today.
They aren't glass smooth like a defiance, but they are way smoother than a factory Remington.
Im sold on bighorn. Patriot Valley arms can spin up shouldered barrels without needing the action or you can use savage prefit barrels.
Defiance is a great action as well cant say anything bad about them, but im sold on bighorn.

I have a Bighorn Origin that I built
I was really surprised at how easy it was with prefit barrels.
Red, to get 7ish you will probably need a carbon barrel. And a good break.

Got an AR today for Christmas, my first. Now I’m wanting to dive down the accessory rabbit hole and I’m here to ask what some must haves are. I’m thinking I for sure want a red dot or some kind of powered sight and of course a few more mags are on my list. I did receive flip up iron sights today as well, so I’m good there. I’m open to any suggestions!
The rifle itself is nothing top end. A Diamondback 5.56 NATO.
I’m sure this has been spoken about in this thread extensively, but I couldn’t find anything specific using the search function.

Depends what you use it for. I think every defensive rifle should have a white light, sling, and and optic. I use a red dot on my bedside gun. I can confidently hit man sized targets from 0-400 yards with it. I know it is a bit more difficult to hit stuff out at distance with a red dot vs a magnified optic but from 0-50, the red dot has the advantage. If I used my AR for deer or something, I would go magnified optic. For red dots, the cheapest I would go is primary arms advance micro red dot. If you have unlimited budget, go Aimpoint micro or compm5. Best bombproof optic for the money imo is still the aimpoint PRO. As far as lights go, I use an Elzetta. They are basically the nightforce of lights. Surefire is also great. Streamlight is probably best bang-for-buck. Most slings are fine. I have a magpul ms4. Anything blue force gear is great. Ferro concepts and haley strategic also make great ones.

Awesome advice. I’ll check out the things you mentioned.
In regards to budget, I’ve been told you can really spend however much you want on accessories. For this first round I was thinking a budge of $1,500 and seeing how I like everything before spending more.

Get an Aimpoint PRO and a light that you like and spend the rest on magazines and ammo

Check out the Sig Romeo with the 3x magnifier. They're on Optics Planet for $417. Should be a decent mix for someone first getting into AR's.
Streamlight weapons mounted lights are good value and good enough for anything a civilian will do. You can get a nice setup for $120.
Take the rest of your budget and buy mags and ammo.

That is more than enough. I would say aimpoint compm5 in a scalarworks mount, Cloud defensive owl light and a blue force sling. You will still be under $1500 but have an awesome setup. If you want a magnified optic, go vortex razor hd gen 2 1-6 power in a scalarworks or Geissele mount, Surefire scout light, and blue force sling.

Got my Right to bear .22 16” assembled upper today and popped it on my 6.5g pistol lower...I like it way more than my s&w 22 that’s all plastic. It just doesn’t feel right to me...lite but more like a toy.
I have 3 PSA atf lowers with consecutive SN that I plan to build into 22s. RTB just started selling them assembled so I grabbed the 16” but I already have the parts for a 9” and 4.5” versions. I’ll use a pic rail in place of the buffer tube and run some sig folding stocks/braces. Since the barrel sits deeper into the upper than a standard 16” at its about a inch shorter overall.
No mag, RD, or can it weighs 5.4lb with that brace. Can’t wait to build them up and shoot.
