I honestly think the jp springs are hyped too much. I had one and I didn’t think it was worth the extra complexity. Especially after I had it break on me.

Too much doe to be spent elsewhere

OK, so my stupid arse was sipping and clicking one night and stumbled on bare lowers for $40 ea. So, due to the sipping part of the equation I order four of the bastards.

They aren't the fancy high end ones naturally so WTH am I gonna do with these? I've never built one so where would be a good place to start? Should I start with "assemblies" or say frick it and go all in with a complete build.

I already have an AR so I'm thinking of maybe something creative with at least one of them but I don't want to break the bank building something I'll hardly ever use.

How many different cals can these "multi-cal" lowers be built into? I know 223, 300, and 308. What else?

The "multi-cal" marking doesnt mean anything more than the "safe/fire" markings. It's not an ATF accepted caliber marking. But, since it is just a receiver it doesnt need the caliber marked on it. As for chambers to build, the .308 is out as it uses a larger lower receiver than the AR15. The more popular choices are 5.56 (including .223 and .223 Wylde), .300 BLk, 6.5 Grendel and 6.8 SPC. The "thumpers" would be .458 SOCOM, .450 Bushmaster and .50 Beowulf. Then there are the wildcats...too many to name.

For fourth bucks just hold onto them and build them as you get the desire to build the next in a different caliber or different configuration. Hell if you got kids and a wife you could build each of them a rifle and justify spending money on them.

Don’t feel bad about them being $40 no names. They will shoot just fine. The lower receiver is about the last thing I worry about when specking our a gun.

That said if I’m building a $1500-2000 dollar gun I generaly go for something like an aero precision or sulzer but I think that’s more out of principle than necessity.

Don't know how old your kids are but when my boys (twins) were 14, they told me they wanted ARs. (I bought them 10/22s for their 10th birthday so they had been shooting a few years.) I told them that if they wanted ARs then they would have to build them! I bought them 2 Anderson lowers with consecutive serial numbers for $45 each and accumulated parts/pieces that were on sale over the course of a couple of months. When we got everything together, I sat them down and turned on YouTube on the laptop and they assembled them. The only thing I helped them with was the barrel and fitting the gas tube/port but they did 90% of the work themselves. We finished up the complete guns for between $400-$500 each. They learned all the parts and how the gun operates and it was a great experience and something they are proud of.

Thoughts on this PSA AR-15?

Both mid and Carbine systems with magpul rear sights, adjustable stock, hand guard and mag can be had for under $500.

Pretty cheap price, but is it cheap quality also?

Reviews look pretty good. I’m not as experienced with AR’s as some other things, but this seems like a pretty solid rifle for someone just starting to build up their AR arsenal.

I know I see post about PSA all the time. Anybody have any pros and cons they would like to share?

Not the best but pretty solid.

Personally I’d look for a S&W M&P15. You should be able to find one for right around that price.

Plenty good to take to the range and have fun. Look up YouTube videos. Lots of torture tests and examples of psa ars going bang. Not the best fit and finish but they work. Just lube the bolt well and you’ll be good to go.

dont exclude .22lr as an option, if you're bound and determined to build something and if you dont already have a .22lr Ar type of some sort. Depending upon your other AR's barrel length, rate of twist and sighting set up, you may well want to expand your versatility by getting an opposite. Say, if your other AR was a 20-26" match model, scoped, etc, and you want to get involved in local, fast, close combat-style matches, you might want a 10.5" barrel, optical sight and a sound suppressor.

In view of the fact that the Dems are determined to mess up trump, they are virulently anti-gun, especially ARs, and that they already have proposed getting rid of 80% lowers, I'd consider keeping the lowers around for resale, at about $400 each in a couple of years. MUCH more, of course, if they are registered for full-auto capability, after you get title II licensure, of course, as "demonstrators", which you rent out to people and keep available for possible sales to LE or military, naturally.

Unless I’m mistaken (and someone here can confirm) you must have a brick and mortar store now to be eligible for an FFL which is need for a manufacturers license.

Not necessarily so long as you can get zoning approval at the location you want locensed. If that is your house some, cities/parishes/counties/HOAs may not allow it and the ATF will check. If it's not an issue you can get an FFL at your house.

He is incorrect about the value of a legal full auto M4/M16 that you would be making under the license though. The only way its "MUCH" more than a standard receiver set is if you are giving up your SOT and a 07/02 FFL wants to purchase it. Even then, it's less than 1k. Otherwise, you're not selling them to LEOs for much more than standard rifles, if you can even get a contract, and you're certainly not selling them to the fricking military. The only other person who would buy them is 01 FFLs with SOT and a demo letter which are hard to get and even harder to get for a M4/M16. Not to mention you would need to invest many thousands into a CNC mill, tooling and fixtures to make them if your going to attract any kind of legit buyer.
