What do the OB AR experts think of the M&P 15 Sport?

I've done some research and see that it doesn't come with forward assist or a dust cover, but most other reviews look positive. Seems like a great starter AR for that price.

There's a guy on the westbank that comes highly recommended on bayoushooter, had him do mine. Name is Mike, I believe his handle over there is Dust Off. Nice guy, great work, and he'll have you in and out in 20 min.

ETA: just saw that you're in Houston, don't guess that helps you much

They are not hard, I put one together with a wrench and a screwdriver. It was rough but it went together fine. I would be buying this stuff already assembled, it would be a cheap rifle to shoot steel cased stuff out of.

Stay focused. I tried but mine came out over 1K

241.90 BCM BCG/BCM charging handle
156.99 lpk/stock
126.95 lower -PSA
464.99 upper -PSA
122.05 sights/front afg
73.44 endcap,3mags,tool

These prices include shipping and FFL fee for the lower. Multiple shipping hurt me on overall price but I built over a few weeks

I do however like my PSA

Crawdaddy

Did that rail/handguard come with the upper? What kind is it? Also, is that a mid length gas system?

Sorry still new to all this.

Thanks.

mid length gas Yankee Hill Diamond Rail.
PSA sold the upper complete with the Rail and CHF FN 16" Barrel, minus the rail end cap, bolt carrier group, and charging handle. Bought those separately.

I like the rail, it is what it is. On the heavy side if you are into trying to keep things light.

I am thinking about replacing it with a Midwest Industries SS gen 2 rail. Thin rail. Debating on 12" or 15" Probably 12"

A local trophy shop should have the equipment.

thats the beauty of a build. you can accumulate parts over a long period of time to spread the damage.

i have flashlights that are waiting for AR's to be built
(its a sickness. "oh! i have this magpul grip, what am i going to do with it?" … a couple of months later, i built another ar because of that stinkin grip)

you can SBR the one you have now for $200. while you are waiting for your stamp lower can save for a separate shorty upper, and run them both on your 1 lower

Honestly, you dont need to be in the know. You need to find what you like and buy it. New crap comes out all the time. You dont need the latest and greatest crap.

This would be my route. Stamp and then parts to follow
Lord know there will be a lot of time in between stamp and the stamp arrival

If you're wanting a lighter/thinner setup, keymod is the future as far as industry wide support that seems to grow everyday. Check out SLR for a great price on a quality keymod handguard if the system interests you. Many other companies offer keymods, but these only run around 200 bucks. Here's my 15" solo series (weighs less than traditional 12" quad rails). Lightest and smallest diameter foregrip I've dealt with. They have the solo lite that doesn't have the fixed rails on the end like mine if you want straight keymod as well.
