The wife works her arse off and I want to get her something new here in the next few months. She has never had a new car and she travels a little bit for work. She likes the Highlander, but has an eye for the RX 350. Through research i've learned that these are basically the same vehicle. They have the same engine and i'm pretty sure frame. Want to get her something along the lines of the limited pkg on a toyota, but the RXs are basically the same price as the limited (starting).
Is it worth taking the step into the Lexus world for basically the same price? Only thing i'm really seeing that is a major difference is the quality of the interior on the Lexus.
Anyone have any take on this? or experience with one or the other? I'm asking on here b/c I don't want all the bullshite that comes with the OT...

My wife is on her 2nd RX350. She wanted to keep the one she has now so we bought it when the lease expired. I haven't driven the new Highlander but they are much improved body and technology over the past model.

Got the wife an Acura RDX last December. 0 problems. She had an Acura car before and enjoyed it so we stuck with it. Honda makes a good product. Have several aunts with the Lexus suv's. Once one had one, they all fell in love with it. May not help with your dilemma, but that's the only ones I have experience with

We had a 2005 Z71 Tahoe with 109k that was quickly shitting the bed. Naturally she wanted another Tahoe.

Went and checked the prices on the new ones, frick that. Checked out a few other makes and models, including the Enclave, Volvo, etc.

By the time you pimp any of those SUVs out on paper, its obviously not cheap.

We ended up getting a Mercedes ML350 for nearly the same price, if not a few thousand cheaper than most of the other SUVs loaded out.

Negative on the tahoe/sequoia... too big. She is on her 2nd 4-runner and doesn't want any bigger.
She likes the the GLK mercedes, but i'm not sure about that one myself.
I really want to keep it at that 40k range. I personally like the volvo, but the new model is coming out xc90 and that fricker is supposed to be in the 50s starting out.
Is the cost of ownership that much more when getting into the lower end luxury vehicles?

The GLK is just a small SUV body on a C-Class sedan frame.

Check out the Volvo XC60 they had one stickered at like 42 when we were looking.

My wife has only had the Mercedes a few months, so Im not sure on the extended cost. It does take premium gas though.

Don't get the wannabe Benz

We looked at the Lexus for my little sister, and those options can add up quickly (there weren't many though)

We haven't had any issues with 2 RX350's. None other than the floor mat recall.

She had a MDX prior to these. That was a nightmare and the service department tried to blame us for everything even when it was still under warranty.

Great car and better than the Lexus the OP is considering,
Has a better crash rating and more standard features, and the base wareanty is better.
It will be a bit cheaper also.

Those sum bitches are every bit the price of any of these others that are being suggested. Unless you get the base model, but you are still paying 30k for it. Plus she doesn't like them.
Never thought about the cadillac being an option. Will have her look at those as well.
