I tried to sell a gun to a gun buy back in MS. They were giving $200 per gun. I had a POS 22 Rifle that would jamb. The buy back was at a Wal Mart parking lot. I planned to get my $200 and go in Wal Mart and buy a new 22 rifle

I showed up early and every pawn shop owner within 100 miles was standing in line with shopping carts full of POS guns they wanted to turn in. The $10,000 gun buy back money was gone with quickness before I even got close to front of the line to get my cash.

When all the money was gone. The cops laid out all the guns purchased on a table for photo ops for the TV news and newspaper. They gave a big speech about how the streets would be safer after getting all these guns off the street. There probably wasn't a gun on the table that could shoot 2 rounds nor did they mention the majority of the guns came from pawn shops not the streets.

Yep. $500 is not enough for me to stand in that line. Otherwise I would go drop off my wife's old .380.

I would want to know how much money they have for the gun buyback program before I made an effort to get some of the cash. If $10,000 that's only 20 guns. These things are basically a publicity event for the govt/politician/police. The buyback lasts from 11:00 - 2:00 but I bet they will be out of money in 30 minutes or less.

Those technically aren't firearms per the legal definition.

My old busted up Rhom 22 pistol would be perfect for this. I'm game. I need to look into this.

Orleans resident. Damnit. Hmm. Who do I know

I hate the intentionally dishonest term ‘buyback’.

The government never owned these guns.

so shouldn't they be required to run the serial numbers on each of the guns they buy and either return them to their rightful owners or report themselves as being in possession of stolen fire arms(provided of course stolen guns are sold there). amazing the media pushes this shite.... this encourages crime

Update from the Mayor’s office:

Orleans Parish residents ONLY may turn in any working firearm and receive $500 cash, no questions asked.

ID’s will not be checked, but sellers must show proof of residency.

You may turn in as many guns as you like, but only $500 MAX will be given per resident.

Guns MUST be in a bag. DO NOT bring exposed weapons.

The event will take place from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. at New Hope Baptist Church, 1807 Reverend John Raphael Jr. Way.

Gun locks will be available for safety.

So what does this mean-- don't need driver's license (ID) but must show proof of residency-- what, like an Entergy bill, piece of mail, library card, something like that?

This is the first time I've seen the term $500 MAX. Makes me think they aren't just giving out $500 per any old gun.

Turn in any old gun or turn in 5 old guns and you get $500. Bring 4 friends and turn in the 5 old guns and get $2500.

The over/under is 0 on an individual turning in more than one gun

I know someone who went. He said it was just people selling some shite that were taking the $500 to go upgrade. Good for the gun shops I guess. Sad that the city calls it a success.
