I’m looking to get my son a good all around 3 1/2 inch shotgun for graduation for around 1000 bucks. I haven’t bought one in several years. I really like my old Winchester super X 2 and he does too. So something similar would do

Benelli Super Nova

I love mine. It’s great, very comfortable to shoot. And it breaks down for cleaning with two pins.

I have a Winchester SX4 3.5 that’s been rock solid. You can get a bottomland or mossy camo for under 1K.

Auto - Mossberg 940 Pro Waterfowl. It only comes in 3”, but what a gun.
Pump - Remington 870 Wingmaster. Remington has come back after all their legal troubles and are building some quality shotguns. Their V3 autos are pretty nice.

Not sure if this is allowed on here but I actually have an A400 I will be getting rid of for 1450. Bought last season and only fired a couple boxes through it but I found someone to fix my benelli. Let me know if you are interested

I’ll second the SX4, then the supernova. I haven’t beat the SX4 near as much as the supernova, but they are both great firearms. SX4 is my first semi auto and I feel like a sinner for waiting so long to push the pump over.

My stoeger 3500 has been very reliable.

Only potential complaint is that you have to change the weight in the stock to shoot high brass vs. low brass. Good thing for me I have multiple shotguns!

I agree about the Benelli but mine has a 28 inch barrel and feels long long. I’d compare 26 to 28” barrel next time.

SX3 or SX4 is the answer if you want that price range and that size chamber

Been shooting a browning Maxus for the last 10 years. Dove duck and clays. Eats everything I put in it. Probably go with an a5 next time bc I like the sight line better but the maxus has been a great field gun. Has been abused. Dropped in swamps. Used as a boat paddle. Thousands of rounds through it. Can’t go wrong.
