Prepare yourself, BV
You got a long road ahead of you, friend
My last dip will be four years ago on December 8th, I asked my mom what she wanted for Christmas and she said,"you quit dipping". That night I had my last dip while watching TV before bed... I did pop one in while in the shower fifteen minutes earlier for old time's sake... god I loved dipping in the shower
The next month was tough, I drank lot, ate a ton of food and smoked cigars to kill the dip kick. But, I did it and there is not a day that goes by that I am not glad I kicked it.
That being said, to this day, every time someone opens a can of snuff and I smell it my mouth begins to salivate. It's nut's, I don't even want it but my body craves it...
good luck, friend

I was going to set a date to The Friday after after I posted this, but I just said frick it. I think around 6 pm was my last dip that day. I bought a can of snuff and threw damn near the whole can in my mouth and dumped the rest out. I told a bunch of people if they saw me putting one in they'd get a free shot to the dome.

Needless to say, I thought about it and I guess it's about time I throw it out. Every time I try, I get to about day 2 and I crack. What's some things y'all know of that works to take the edge off?
Friend of mine died a couple weeks ago from throat cancer. He was diagnosed less than a year ago. Nothing worked.
He was way too young to die.
Is that what you're looking for?

Dad was a wintergreen Skoal man for years. He told Mom when he got off recruiting duty for the Corps in 1990 in Lake Charles...he would quit. He did. His crutch...wintergreen lifesavers.
Tobacco might be a bane for some...but I'll never smell wintergreen or Skoal and not think of the ole man.

keep it up man. I quit smoking and dipping New Year's day 2015. I'm 38 years old and have been dipping and smoking since 14. Nine months later and haven't had the first chaw or smoke. My baby daughter keeps me motivated but I really enjoy life not being dictated by nicotine. I smell better, my teeth are whiter, I have more energy and I save money.
I'm still the same a-hole without nicotine, so quitting doesn't fix everything.

Didn't read entire thread so I am not sure if anyone else mentioned this or not, but Smokey Mountain wintergreen or straight really helped me, I still to this day will buy a couple cans especially during hunting season, still crave the oral sensation sometimes just not the nicotine. Good luck...

As messy and socially unacceptable as it is, I friggin loved dipping
A cool morning in the fall, walking outside, put that pinch of Kodiak in and “whoosh” it was all good.
Then my gums and jaw started hurting me and I knew I had to do something. Quit cold turkey.
It was the hardest thing I ever had to quit. Headaches, shakes, body aches, and general irritability just sucked. Gotta go through it if you wanna get out though.
It’s been years and still I miss it.

That's about where I was with Skoal when I quit. Watched the news about the Great American Smokeout and "If you can quit for a day, you can quit for good."
I didn't think I could quit for a day, but I challenged myself to go 10 minutes after I ate dinner. Made that and decided to go for 30, then an hour, then until bedtime. Was shocked I made it.
I really thought I would wake up in the morning and pop in a dip as usual, but I never touched it again.
It's like an ex girlfriend: you think of her every day at first, then one day you realize you haven't thought of her in months. Good riddance.

Yep. I never started again and still have to stop myself from buying it.

the dentist called to do a biopsy
That's what happened to me. That's when I quit. That was scare enough. I didn't want a future where a doctor would to dissect and remove pieces of my face and jaw.

Same story as you, except we all chewed RedMan and Levi as kids. Started dipping later.
I started using the mint leaf stuff; it’s mushy and nasty, so once you can handle being off the nicotine, stopping using that stuff was much easier. It’s been 18 years now.

Advice. Read that shite over and over.
I dipped for about 20 years. Yeah, I got scolded a few times by the dentist. One day about 3 years ago, I looked at my then 9 year old daughter and thought what if I wasn't around to walk her down the isle if I died of mouth cancer. Right then, I quit cold turkey.

Everybody’s different, but cold turkey never worked for me. After failing 2-3 times I just made a schedule and weaned off of it, and that was pretty easy. Just took a couple of weeks.
This was before nicotine patches, so those may make it even easier.
