My tree was struck by lightning. Is it going to make it?

It’s a 40ish year old maple I believe. I’m not a tree expert.
It blew bark 60 feet from the tree.
It even blew out through the roots.

I'm no tree expert either, but my guess is there's 0% chance this tree survives.

It boils the water and sap in the tree so probably not.

A little wood glue, slap that bark back on, cover up those roots, it’ll be as good as new.

Sadly, it isn't likely. I've never heard of any tree surviving a lightning strike.

For many years I lived in The farmstead amongst a huge Grove of cottonwood trees one after another several of them were struck some of them were struck multiple times as many as three and four and five times. Each time a certain amount of damage was done but none were ever killed directly by the lightning. True, cottonwoods and maples are not the same but I would be waiting a while to see how things work out. That tree May survive and prosper for many years yet.

No doubt. I was standing next to a beautiful live oak in my front yard when it was struck. Stunned the hell out of me and knocked me off of my feet. It looked just like that poor tree, bark was everywhere.
I tried everything to save it but cut it down three years later. It's a shame, but that's a dead tree, my friend.

Pretty sure I've seen trees out in the woods that have old lightning strike scars.
I'm guessing its a goner too but I'd at least wait until its obvious.

Pretty amazing that humans sometimes survive lightning strikes

Looks like the lightening bolts I drew as a kid in class. Funny.

The old family place on the north end of Toledo Bend had lots of pine trees survive even multiple strikes. Most hardwoods don't fare so well though.
Looks to me like you have about a 3 year window to remove that damaged tree before it turns into an eyesore and a rotting danger with all the stuff that accompanies rotting hardwood.

Time to make a wooden bat like "The Natural."

A maple that size I would get it milled into lumber. Or where are you located I may come do it if you want.
