My rat snake keeps surprising me

And it’s not that great of a time.
I’ve encountered this fricking 4 foot cue ball thick snake about a half dozen times the last week. His tail was hanging out of a crack in the stairs down to the pool liked to have done my ticker in right then.
I like the critter and know he’s doing work but I gotta figure out something for all these gotchas in my living area outside.
Would mothballs or something around the house keep away from the patio but still around the property.
fricker is fat and black and if you just see half of him looks just like a moc.
I don’t want to shovel massage him but he needs to stay in the yard. During the hurricane he went into a pillar on our patio which was very disconcerting. Dude appears randomly.
Came swimming when I was fishing out the drain in the dog kennel after Ida. Too close for comfort.
What I do baws

This in not difficult. Get the hoe, shovel, or shotgun and get rid of your problem.

Grow a pair. It’s a rat snake. Let him work.

Eliminate his food source and he will leave on his own.

Just let it be. Who cares. It’ll do nothing but help you. Won’t hurt you or anyone.

Don't kill it. You will regret it.

I had one get in my garage one day. It was tough getting it out without killing it.

I almost stepped on mine the other day. Scared the shite out of me. He slithered off with his head up and one eye on me.

I know what you mean. Mine is 6 foot long and I almost stepped on him the other day. But it is docile and just slithers right past. There is no drama unless I try to capture it.

You live within an hour or two of Folsom? Of so, I’ll come catch him and relocate him to my land.

Just name him something cute like Noodle.
That will reduce the fear by 27%.

I have a similar issue. Me and snakes don’t get along but I understand the rat snake is harmless and he’s helping me out. Well a few months ago the pest control guy was doing his quarterly spray around the exterior of the house. After he was done, he came to the house and told my wife that he just encountered one of the largest rat snakes he had seen in his career and he’s been doing this for over 20 years. I know that sum bitch is around my shop and he’s going to make me shite my pants when I run into him.

Fat and black does not sound like a rat snake.

You could spray paint it. A nice pastel. That would be calming.

You know what's worse than a snake tail protruding from your pool stairs? I big fricking rat running around the stairs!

i applaud you for not giving him the shovel treatment. I honestly dont kn ow if the mothball thing is a myth or not. Catch, bag, release somewhere?
