Family of 4 killed 11 in MS, 6 bucks and 5 does with 4 being great bucks. 1 small buck was my kids 1st archery kill (regular bow) and 1 small buck was a public land kill.

Private land hunts were average but public was HORRIBLE. Way more trashy people in the woods this year. Found empty drink cans, water bottles and food wrappers everywhere. Numerous piles of corn which is illegal also.

Turkey populations are down across the country.....researchers are sampling to find out why. Some believe it is pesticides that could be hindering the reproductive ability of young turkeys....plus hogs and coyotes and foxes and coons and bobcats are not helping one bit. no one traps anymore and varmints are plentiful. They crush the eggs and young birds.

There are areas in the South that are not worth hunting any longer due to the low populations......bummer.

yep. our lease has the potential. i have seen some deer in columbia and carson that are damn nice but our problem is that we have neighbors that are shooting all the bucks when they hunt.

its why im looking for somewhere close to where i live

You are either going to have to be part of a large acreage club that has strict rules, or get up in the delta where management is more widely practiced. Some spots in on the river in Central MS that you can find that.

Saw lots of deer.

2 does with the 6.5 Creedmoor
Cow horn spike and 9 point with the bow
Daughter shot a 6 with the Creedmoor (first deer)
Huge sow with the Creedmoor
Coyote with the bow

It was another fun and productive season. Going Sunday and make a few kill plots around where I do a lot of bow hunting.

I agree with you on the turkeys going away. I hunt just NE of Woodville and the drop in turkey sightings this year has been pretty drastic. I don't hunt them, but used to see them damn near every deer hunt. This year it was rare to even get them on game camera.

everyone needs to do better with the coyotes and coons

someone with a good thermal and time could make a lot of money in this area

Killed 2 does and a 180 lb 9 point. Saw deer maybe half the time. I had more luck hunting crossings than over food plots. Didnt see many deer come out in the food plots during the daylight. Woodville, MS

Can’t imagine why you folks had a horrible season…. Bad acorn crop, bad weather, Louisiana baws showed up in force knocking everything down with dogs and horses. Eventually Louisiana is going to Louisiana the state of Mississippi. Although, the coastal portion of Mississippi has its fair share of outlaws.

The locals do a pretty damn good job of that on their own. The folks who complain about Louisiana hunters are probably looking for something to blame other than their own poor hunting skills.

Y'all make it sound like all the Louisiana residents hunting in Mississippi are from Ville Platte.

Exactly. We do the best we can to manage 190 acres of family land. The locals are the ones usually with the mindset of, if it’s brown it’s down

Worst season I can remember in Centreville area. Had cameras out all year and saw two does with two yearlings and a bunch of small bucks. One shooter who never came out in daylight and never got another pic of after December 30th.

When hunting that area during thanksgiving/Christmas it sounds like you are hunting in the middle of Fallujah, Iraq. There is no doubt that the deer population in that area is declining due to pressure.

I 1000% agree with this comment about the dog hunters! Whether it’s rednecks or coonasses I can’t stand dog hunters especially on public lands in MS. Private lands can do whatever as long as your dog stays on your land.

Rural Property Owners Association is a neat group started to help convince law makers to make a change. They were influential in getting the permit system installed.

MS could have fantastic public lands if these dog hunters would stop raping the land. The potential is there.

Theres more truth to Texashand’s post but don’t have the time to discuss it or the will power. And yes I’m a coonass that’s been hunting in MS almost 1/2 my life.

Your statement reads, anywhere could have fantastic public land if you keep the public off of it.

No just dog hunters terrorizing the deer non stop and infringing on my rights as a still hunter.

My still hunting does not interfere with you running dogs but you running dogs does interfere with my still hunting.

Yes I know you run dogs in La on private land.
