Don't want to start a new thread and don't mean to hijack this one. But!!! A couple of y'all have mentioned boots/waders in a boat. One of the first things I ever learned about hunting and fishing is NEVER wear rubber boots / waders in a boat.

why is this?

Because if you would happen to fall out the boat for whatever reason, said boots/waders will fill up with water causing you to drown

is the water that goes in the boots heavier than the water outside of them?

in grand isle fishing.. pulling up to the dock after a long day. the guy at the wheel was coming in a little too hot.. slammed the boat in reverse with out saying anything throwing me over the front ( was waiting to tie the boat at the bow ). when i hit the water and came up i had about a foot of space btwn me, the boat hull and the mud bank under the dock. I gave a quick kick putting one hand on the boat bow and one on the dock.. unfortunately the one on the dock landed on a nail head sticking out about an inch.
So - i lived but still have a nice scar on my left palm from impaling it on that nail... all and all I would say that i was pretty lucky.

I've heard the same thing he has.
Where they screw you is when it's time to climb back in the boat with waders full of water.

Had a kid zing a .308 bullet past my stand down a pipeline from about a mile away. Pulled the trigger on accident when he was sticking it out the window to aim at a deer. Horrible arse sound to hear in a deer stand.
This.
Was in a stand on the lowside of creek bed across from a pasture. A deer was running across the pasture and some wahoo decides to shoot at a running deer 300 yds away. I hear POP zzzziiippp BANG about 2 times before I realize its bullets zipping through the air and hitting trees behind me. I got out stand and laid flat. Dude shot about 4-5 times.
Gave me as close to war feeling as I ever want to feel.

You and I both know its not. I do know its a lot harder to swim with hip boots full of water because when I was a young teenager I didn't always do what I was taught.

Nearly being run over by a barge while in a bateau with a stalled engine.

I am just messing around, I used to fill up my waders and float around in em just to prove a point to some buddies who insisted they would drag you down to your death. No one does it, but a wading belt is a great safety aid when wading, they insure limited water goes in the boots

I was quail hunting with my buddies in South Texas in college. I was on the left side, buddy of mine's lane was in the middle. We flushed the covey, they all flushed to the left side (my side). I swing 90 degrees to my left to follow one, and my middle lane brother swung left as well. His muzzle must have been 6-8 inches from my ear when he fired. I dropped to the ground and everyone thought I had been shot. I wasn't sure that I hadn't. I just knew that was the most jarring explosion right next to my face. I got to my knees and was apparently yelling "I CANT HEAR MYSELF TALK! CAN YOU HEAR ME? I CANT HEAR ME!". I looked like the guy from Saving Private Ryan.
Was fine a few days later, but I wasnt sure for a few days if I would ever fully recover. Then came the iPod...and my hearing went to shite anyway!

approaching a wounded hog
retrieving a stuck bait from a cypress tree or stump where all kinds of stuff that wants to kill you or defend itself with venom is waiting.
This plus:
Lighting storm in an aluminum boat (since switched to fiberglass)
Walking up on a trapped and injured rabid yote.
Had a run in with a bear once. As well as a bull elk defending his herd.
ETA: I've had one or two stray bullets zing past me. It's always been the same damn troubled kid from down the road too.

I second the slipping in a climber. It's happened to me twice and I used to be a dumbass that didn't wear a harness. When your sitting there and out of nowhere you start to slide down that tree you instantly think you are dead, and then them teeth grab, thank the lord, and you feel like a dumbass.
Also fishing in Shell Beach, catching trout. A thunderhead pops up a couple miles away. It's black under the cloud with rain, but we were catching so we decided to wait until the first lightning strike to take off. That was dumb. Cause I made a cast off the bow, my line was in the water maybe 10 seconds and this happens.
1. I see white light
2. I feel my entire body tingle coming up through my rod and hands, every hair raised, goose bumps everywhere.
3. I hear BA-BOOM like it's on the boat.
4.At the same instant I feel like I had taken an open palm and just smacked my forehead, and everything went black for about a millisecond.
5. We hauled arse
Lightning had hit the water within a few hundred yards of the boat. The electricity ran up my line, down my rod and through me. The whole boat was electrified. Everytime you grabbed a rail or latch you got shocked for the next 20 minutes as we ran in.
It was actually pretty surreal. I wouldn;t say I got hit, but it was damn near the closest thing to it. There was no pain either. It just felt like I got open palm hit in the forehead, not even real hard, knocked out for less than a second, stumbled backwards one step and then everything was normal.
TLDR: slipping down tree, and almost hit by lightning

With my life or death experience, the waders partially filled with water but I got an air pocket from my upper knees to lower chest causing my feet to actually float up, which made it difficult to grab the ridges on the bottom of a flipped boat to get out of the water. At the time, I was worried about the prop that was still running before the motor died.

Hit a stump just right. Would have seen the fricker plain as day if we would have had an operational Q-beam or just waited till daylight to leave the launch. Lot of mental mistakes made that day.

I was in an old Amacker, waaayyyy up a oak overlooking cutover, when I dislodged the bottom piece and it walked itself all the way down the tree.
I as sitting on the top piece on homemade swing seat, back to tree, with rifle resting on top. Somhow I managed to get turned around, with rifle front slung. Secured rifle to top piece, then slid out and bear hugged the tree....got down, and grabbed the bottom piece then had to old school hug the tree and pull bottom piece up so I could go back and get rifle and top.....
If that happened to my old fat arse now, I really think I would be dead. Safety straps, pieces latched together and pull up ropes are all in use nowadays.

I had something very similar happen at the public launch in Fourchon. We were trying to hustle a bit to avoid the storm, so we were a little over idle coming in. fricking harbor pig harassed us long enough for the storm to hit. Then he got in his truck and left as it started. I was going to climb into the boat to grab some rods right when it hit. I still don't know where it hit. Just heard the bang and saw the flash/felt the tingle. I ran straight to the truck but I couldn't grab the handle. So my buddy finally runs up (probably a half second later
