The concern is that if they wait until the spillway is overtopped, they won't be able to open it at all.

How is the water looking? Thinking of throwing out some jugs for catfish just south of the ORCS.

Have they determined is the whole thing going to open? I know its going to be a slow "Staged"opening but are they only going to open half total or is this going to be a wait and see how much pressure they need to release?

They will not open the whole structure. From what the Corp reported yesterday after the controlled opening they will open about the same as 2011. But they are expecting the structure to stay open longer. If you can find the meeting video from Morganza yesterday it explains in good detail. I know the video is on facebook.

Yes. It was stated in their release about a week ago that it would be opened because of the possibility it would be overtopped, not because of the flow, which is usually the trigger for opening.

In 2011 they had 300,000 cubic feet per second flow, they’re only expecting 150,000 cfps this time around

The water is not going to overtop that structure. People are being to paranoid about this water. I don’t think they even need to open the gates. I believe the only reason they are doing it is so that if the water was to bust a levee somewhere people would not be able to blame them for not opening the spillway. The water is not going to get much higher then it is now before it starts dropping.

Just go look at the river forecast it’s not even supposed to rise another foot. If they was going to open it, they should have been did it. Now they wait until the river is about to start dropping in a week or so to open it. Something is fishy to me about it. The river would have to come up another 5 foot to come over that structure. I was bowfishing in the fore bay this weekend and drove my boat right by it. I live close to Morganza.

Not sure where you seeing the river dropping in a week or so. The forecast show only rising a foot because they are opening the spillway.

I’d rather just ride it out, but I guess we will just have to see what happens. We fighting a losing battle anyway trying to control the Mitty Mississippi.
