Word is once they open they open the spillway, the dead zone in the GOM is going to explode. Everyone west of the Miss River might want to catch your Snapper this weekend or fill you gas tanks up to run further south.

Man I’d rather just have a levee break down south of BR somewhere

Did you happen to catch that video going around with Chinese professor talking about the effects that would occur if the Miss River permanently changed it's course through the Atchafalaya. Growing up in Morgan City, that's something me and my dad discussed for years. It would be catastrophic for everything along the river south of baton rouge.

The largest section isn't right out of south pass.

Hypoxia happens every year and the media gets a boner calling it the dead zone. I'm sure the higher than normal river runoff is going to make it worse than usual, but unless you're a commercial deep sea shrimper you'll probably never know the difference.

dead zone is a bit of a stretch of a term

there is life within the dead zone

the entire water column is not void of life

The outflow from the Mississippi River through the Morganza is really not all that much. The deadzone is caused by nitrates in the river and the increased rainfall is not the cause of that. I am sure people will be fine. I am hoping they open it slow enough to allow the deer to be able to get out of the area.

Can someone explain this barge they keep talking about sinking? I don't understand why they are having to sink a barge somewhere?

Thats a really cool video never thought of back flooding on that large of a scale. Could you imagine all of new orleans and the area he is talking about being under water in 3 days! Unreal

If the river would change course tomorrow, what areas would be the new baton Rouge?
What land would be the premium spots for ports along I10?

Henderson? Breaux bridge?

Centerville/Franklin area I’d imagine as a nola port substitute. Breaux Bridge with closer access to I10

With the CURRENT amount of dredging around the Morgan city area, I’d be very curious to see as to what would be required following a river course change.
