Yeah, frick it. If the river moves, the plants can just get up and follow it.

I think you missed his point

Had we not interfered the river would have long ago changed course and the cities and plants would already be on it.

I unbelievably agree with him on this.

Interesting video; It would be interesting to get a before and after pic. So to sink a barge, they essentially position it next to pipes that hold it in place and then pull the plug and watch it go to the floor of the bayou? Im assuming the barge wont be sticking out of the water once sunk. If the water is 30ft deep there and the barge is 15ft, it wont be a total blockage of water flow.

I would imagine most words you people don't understand are taken as some sort of disrespect.

Baton Rouge and New Orleans are only 60 years old? Man I thought they were older than that.

You don't think it would have changed course in 73?

Are you this dense or simply being deliberately obtuse?

The Old River Control Structure was finished in 1963. It’s purpose was to keep the Mississippi River in its current path. Baton Rouge and New Orleans were already along the river as well as industry.

Can you not see any logic in what I am saying?

I guess the point I’m making is, if you don’t try to control the river, it’s a lot harder to use it for industry. If you just let it go where it wants, channels silt up and ships won’t be able to navigate.

Yeah, I get that part. OTOH, if allowed to chance paths, another change would probably occur long after our society has ended.

I guess If you are simple enough to believe the completion date of the ORCS was the first man made engineering attempt at controlling the river it is logical.

So if left alone to take the path of the Atchafalya, would it be deep enough for ship traffic?

EVENTUALLY it will. But how long would that take?

America won’t let a change of the river happen. If it does, one of the greatest engineering achievements will take place to restore it.
