*Update: Officials say two more deer with Chronic Wasting Disease have been found in the state. One in Issaquena County—its second—and one in Marshall County.

As for the conspiracy story, he was jokingly telling it. We all kind of laughed about it, but with all conspiracy story’s it did have a believable ring to it. Basically was taking infected area, killing off a bunch of deer, landowners lose interest from threat of CWD. Game and Fish then buys all the land up.

I think a stronger conspiracy is the government is spreading it to ruin hunting and therefore us not have a reason for guns.

I don’t think this is a conspiracy though. I think it is a natural disease primarily caused/driven by overpopulation of deer herd.

Up to four cases. The second Issaquena deer has been covered on this forum a few weeks ago. The Marshall County case is the new one.

Give this man a cigar, cwd and it’s cause has probably always been around but the successful growth caused it to come out of hiding. There has been an explosion in the deer heard nationwide the last 30-40 years.

I don’t think it has always been around. It looks like some researchers in Colorado in the 60s created it while studying Scrapie and it got loose from there.

It is just spreading like wildfire now because the deer are overpopulated.

That’s seems correct, but how do we explain CWD in Norway in Rheindeer?

Probably a crossover of scrapie or similar prion disease over there somehow. Just a guess.

I should have specified: I don’t think it has always been around in the USA.

Hard to say. It’s now also shown up in Finland and in the Middle East with camels. In North America, it’s fairly spread out with some big gaps in between locations.

Yep. I wonder about the gaps though.

Is it unreported instances? Huge incentive to not report. Your investment will be destroyed by government and no one will want to buy your land or products.

Animals can live with it a long time and show no symptoms. Many times die and no one knows why or harvested before they show symptoms.

We have been shipping real deer urine all over so that is an example of a way a gap could happen.

I would bet it has a lot to do with hunters traveling and then bringing it back to their home state. You can literally transport from mud on your boots.

I know it is suspected but I am not sure if they have conclusively said it can come from deer attractant. And if it can I wouldn't doubt some big money would try and keep it hushed.

No idea, but it was a known deer parasite, so handling shouldn't be an issue.

From what I understand the only time a human is at risk of contracting the disease is if you eat parts of the nervous system. Specifically the brain.

I listened to a meat eater podcast and they had on a USWLF biologist guy on and he wouldn’t outright deny that humans can contract CWD, but he said it’s never happened yet

I listened to that as well and it was really good. That said, even if the guy believed it couldn't make the jump, there's no way someone in his position would openly say that on a radio show.
