I live in LA and have family land in my name in MS and am still a non-resident. Non-resident lifetime is atrocious. $1500

I was born in MS

eta, I called MDWFP and they said if my name is on the deed at all, I can hunt freely. Soooooo

It’s alot of money and was the reason my dad stopped hunting about 5 years before he passed away. He resented the fact that he was born in Mississippi, got drafted to Vietnam, owned property in Mississippi, and had to pay $400 a year to hunt.

IMO it’s bullshite you have to have a license at all to hunt your own land. You pay taxes to the state and parish/county you should be able to hunt even if a non resident on land you own. It’s hard for me but to see it as anything other than amoney grab to require a license to hunt land you own, maintain and pay taxes on.

It’s a money grab for sure. The same as yearly vehicle registration.

That’s incorrect according the MDWFP website. I wouldn’t base my decision on what someone said.

Must be a resident and your name must appear on the deed. The wife and I don’t need a license on our land but the kids will.

I got it from the licensing dept from MDWFP. I even stated I'm a resident of LA but name is on deed in MS.

I'll call again in a few days and ask again though.

Tell them to update their website if that’s correct , which I doubt . It’s been that way for many years and don’t see them changing it. They’d leave a lot of money on the table .

If it doesn't work out, they'd either have to find me on my 1000+ acres or I'll just buy the $1500 lifetime. I wish I wouldve been given the license when I was younger. I'll make sure to get my kids the lifetime in LA.

We bought our boys the La lifetime license before they were a year old. We moved to Ms in 2011 and my middle one is taking hunters Ed now. Glad we bought it.

Best thing we ever did for the kids. Bought all a lifetime in LA when they were under 4 now the eldest has a lifetime Mississippi as well plan on getting the other two theirs soon.

that would be a bargain and I would buy one today, but MS no longer offers non resident lifetime licenses and has not in years, I think when they did it was either 3K of 5K

Even their resident lifetime license is high. $500 birth to 13 the $1000 after that. My middle one needs to take hunter safety soon so I can get his before the price increase

Unfortunately, none of us will ever elude a revenue opportunity for a governmental agency.

You are resident of one state only. Not complicated.

If you own land but do not live you need a lic. if you are a non-resident. I bought some land a long time ago and that is how it was then.
