But smoke is bad for the environment. Nobody cares about all those chemicals with funny names that nobody can see. Duh.

No diesel or mega??? Say it ain't so...

I've heard about the fines that can come from removing your DPF, but where I live I don't suspect that will ever be a problem. I wouldn't think it would be any trouble in your neck of the woods either.

I've never had an inspection where they even thought about checking my emissions.

They look at lights, turn signals, etc, wiper blades, and horn. They're supposed to do a road test but never do. And I just pay the dude an extra $10 and he ignores the window tint.

Mines been expired since last August though, I really need to go get another one.

Going back to stock just for a 3 year warranty. You know that shite will break year 4.

They are supposed to check emissions in EBR. Something to do with air quality here. It was bad for 1 year and they just kept the regulations in place

I don't get inspections in EBR, no way I could get a sticker with my tint

SO ITS OK TO RUIN OUR ENGINES AND FUEL SYSTEMS WITH ETHANOL but its not ok to improve the performance of the truck you bought and paid for.

Gotta love it

They let the inspection stations charge whatever the frick they want to in BR. I had one guy do the inspection and try and charge me $24 once. I get mine from a little shack in Metairie. Guy doesnt even get out to put it on your car. Give him money and registration, he hands you a scraper and new sticker and you are set

Says he cant say for sure but he is 90% certain that the mods did not cause failure it was just an extremely rare failure and that driving in 4 Hi like she did contributed.

I haven't read all 9 pages, but if I had to guess the tranny got too hot. You seem like an engineer, so think back to materials. The gears are made from fairly soft steel (that won't shatter, but will wear), with the outermost surface having extra carbon diffused into it (so that it's actually more brittle, but won't wear). When she drove it in 4 Hi at higher speeds, it was exposed to some pretty rough temps. Enough to allow a lot of that carbon to diffuse out of the very top layer of metal. It got weaker, but you didn't see it right away, then the surface wore down.

Moral: get a tranny cooler, no matter what you go with.

Also if you are going to run a diesel with any mods you should monitor the temps of the transmission and EG.

You may be doing this already.

Alright so after looking at lots of options and crunching some numbers I realized that at a minimum I need a crew cab 4x4 so that means with the hemi and down sizing from teh mega cab I can get 20 mpg (unloaded non towing) and with the 6.7 cummins mega cab with stock exhaust I was getting 14 hwy regardless of what I was loaded with or towing. That's only works out to about 2k a year diff in fuel costs for me.

I'm pretty for under 200 per month I am willing to keep the mega cab and the diesel for the power and space. I have to admit though I do like some of the fancy gadgets in the newer trucks though.

Now I have to decide on stock vs aftermarket tranny and I am looking at ATS in Tomball.

There is always the option of a new mega.

Ive told you before, but I kick myself everyday for not getting one. Even riding in my dads truck and going back to mine is tough. I feel like I'm getting in a compact car when I get in my truck after his. I can't imagine what it would be like for you.

Did you have any trouble with the DPF and stock set up? I had a few issues, as did many others. Ripping that crap out solved everything for me. Now I'm at 100k trouble free miles. The first 8k had me in and out of the shop cleaning and replacing o2 sensors etc..my truck would go into high idol all the time causing terrible fuel mileage and it would go into limp mode and run like shite. I would be very hesitant to go back to stock(in fact I wouldn't do it) but if youve never had any problems I can see why you wouldn't.

Lots of reasons for staying with the dodge, and specifically the Mega Cab. I thought about bringing it to a different dealer out of town and telling them I wanted to trade it in and neglecting to mention the tranny issues. All without a reciept of course.

DT other than 9-10 in the city/off road and 13-14 on the HWY I never had an issue with my 6.7 Mega. With the EGR/DPF/Mini Maxx I'm getting 14-15 in town and off road, and 19-22 HWY depending on my foot.

frick an automatic trans.

Always failing when least expected and at most inconvenient times, never last as long as the engine, and always cost a fricking fortune to repair.

Give me M/T any and every day.

Next upgrade for my truck when the C6 automatic eats shite -- M/T swap.

I just would get tired of sitting in traffic with a manual transmission. That and going through drive through windows, etc

And how am I supposed to steer, text, and shift at the same time?

final decision after some research

Go back to stock exhaust and replace with rebuilt stock tranny (5k). This allows me to extend full mechanical warranty on truck for another 4 years.

after warranty is over, I will replace dpf/egr delete and programmer and have fun until/if tranny slips then decide what to do.

Welcome to the club again

My fuel mileage = 12mpg

You should be somewhere around there once you get everything set up. Like I said earlier, if you drive 35,000mi a year, your fuel bill just got $4800 more expensive
