Right, but if getting that hot is possible, he should have already had a trams cooler. By one of your previous replies, it look like he does.

Maybe that is malfunctioning, ultimately causing the problems.

Anyone done the EGR delete on the GMC2500HD and had any issues with it? I am quickly approaching 100K and plan to egr delete not long after.

I had no problems with the tranny prior to this winter. Last summer I did DPF and EGR delete on it and added a programmer. I get 5 more MPG. I drive with a heavy foot on the hwy 85+ but that is empty and not pulling a load. I accelerate smoothly to get to those speeds and have not laid rubber in it or tached it out ever. I do have 35" tires on her but they are on the stock wheels. I do not take it out and mud in it and have done no heavy pulling to speak of.

Tell me how those mods can screw up a transmission if at all?

Didn't read the rest of the thread...but WOT downshifting can kill a trans. I'm more familiar with the 545rfe in the gas-burners though. Not sure how similar the diesel transmission is to the gas one.

Should be covered under warranty though. Just get it as close to stock as you can, then bring it in for work.

ETA: And by WOT downshifting, I'm talking about cruising at 65+ and then putting the pedal to the metal to pass someone. In the gas trucks, the trans shifts to a gear called "2nd prime", which is a passing gear and consists of overdrive and another gear (maybe 2nd or 3rd). The overdrive clutches are weak as it is and when you downshift hard and transfer all 300+ hp/tq to those clutches too often, they'll eventually give out. But, like I said, that's in the gas burners. Trans still should have lasted much longer.

Because Ford and Chevy transmissions never go out before 50,000 miles, right?

I hate when people say that. And it's not because I drive one...I like all makes and models. I'm just not so naive as to think that all Dodges have bad transmissions, all Fords break sparkplugs, and all Chevy's have pistonslap. Just cause one truck has an issue doesn't mean they all do.

So suncoast says they do not make a tranny that will match the aisin 68rc but I see a 68RFE version on their site. Im off to see which stock tranny I have.

ATS has what appears to be a good line of well respected 68rfe trannys that will fit and will handle up to 600 hp so I may be driving to houston to do that. A little more expensive but from what I read much more relieable than stock. about 6800 for that installed

I said aisin 68re but I really meant 68rfe. I believe the aisin is just in the cab and chasis models.

sorry about the confusion.

eta: unless that's something different with the megas
