I started posting in 2011. Not long after there was a post on here where a rifle went off in the back of a truck as I recall. Gonna dog and try to find it

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS unload your gun ANYTIME you’re not actively hunting and have it pointed straight into the air away from your and everyone else’s head!!!
Growing up in a hunting family this was preached religiously to me by my dad and uncles.
Even then, I still didn’t fully grasp how important it was until I was 14 and walking from my dove hunting spot in a field towards the truck to get some snacks. Had my shotgun in my hands, horizontal and pointed straight ahead. Walking in the general direction of my dad, cousins, and uncles hanging out by the trucks.
While walking, the gun somehow fired. Thankfully it missed everyone but to this day I still swear I had the safety on and my finger wasn’t on the trigger. Guns are finiky sometimes. You just never know when soemething is going to happen. ALWAYS unload your gun when not actively hunting.
I learned a very important and lucky lesson that day that I’ll bever forget.

I do not know anything more about this story than what is posted here, and not insinuating anything, but the discussion of drinking and hunting comes up here occasionally and I seem to be in the minority around here with my strong stance of guns and alcohol do not mix... at all, , just a beer or two can make you lack the full attention to detail that is necessary when handling firearms , rule at my place is hunt all you want and drink all you want, but once you start drinking, hunting is over and guns put away

Hate that that happened to them. But you have to unload your gun when putting in a motorized vehicle

Is this shite true about the Game Wardens that responded? I understand GWs put up with a lot of BS, but this is totally inexcusable if true. Should be fired.

Enforcing that rule at a commercial operation made me very unpopular.... but I had high ranking support on that

I agree with no drinking and guns, no reason to mix the 2. Half the people I’ve dove hunted with I don’t feel safe being around them with a gun sober anyway.
Why limit it to doves?
Any update on Matt?

We had the same rule in our diving group, you can have a beer after your last dive, but if you drink a beer that was your last dive.

How bout you numbnuts start a thread about drinking and hunting. Or drinking and diving. Nobody was drinking when this tragedy occurred.
