What a hell of a hunting season that would have been!

I was reading about mastodons and mammoths today, fantastic creatures.

Anybody run across mastodon fossils in their excursions?

I know a Turkey hunter that found the fossilized skull of a Sabre tooth cat on a private lease off the Angola road back in the 90’s. He took it to LSU for info, they said it was at the top of the food chain during the ice age. LSU cleaned it up and put it in a glass case for him at no charge.

I found a mess of teeth in Jones Creek in the mid 60's. I called LSU and they weren't interested. I often wondered if any more fossils would have popped up from erosion.

Can only imagine the quality and quantity of the mastodon milk sacs. Don't get me started on the ovaries.

When the Mississippi was low an American Lion fossil was found near Clarksdale. This is the furthest east they ever been found.

American Lions and short faced bear would make the Louisiana Purchase states a dangerous place

"Not even sportsmanlike, if you aren't using a sling shot its not even fair to the Mastadons, probably why we won't have them in a few years. I blame Mastadon Dynasty..."

6.5cm is enough gun as long as you hit them in the rights spot imo.

eta: just don't use anything that says "match" on the box.

It’s one of those things I’d like to use a Time Machine for. Go back and see our ancestors take down something like this. The methods they used. How many spears or whatever it took.

Plains Indians on a buffalo hunt would be cool too.
