That big whitetail was so eaten up with that doe that we drive up to within 60 yards of him and he had no care. The biologist named him Touchdown because they did not have him on camera yet, he should have been named Burreaux.

I don't know how the meat compares between the two species.

We lease a place south of Paducah about 5 miles. I know what Ranch you're hunting and know some guys from North LA that bird hunt there as well. We're in the same boat on quail this year as the numbers are not good at all. Good to see the amount of mule deer ya'll have. We've had a few on our place for the last 5-10 years and they've been interbreeding with white tails.

Y’all on The Tongue River or The Triangle Wick?

Sorry didn’t see the earlier post. Beautiful pictures. Isn’t it great to enjoy a place that is so wildlife rich.

Depending on which direction from Crowell, we are very close. Our mule deer are in the rockier areas and steeper areas, the white tails are everywhere else. Have y’all seen any free range exotics?

Bonus question, do mule deer taste the same as whitetails?

We killed some in Colorado, did not taste good at all imo. Whitetail taste way better to me.

Dad used to hunt Colorado with a group. They would combination hunt mule deer and elk. They quit going after mule deer because they all hated the meat. I do believe everyone had gotten a nice trophy mule deer over the years.

We ate the mule deer for camp meat, while we were elk hunting.

I would assume the meat taste will have to do with the food sources where it lives.

You get the deer tested for wasting disease before sending them to the butcher?

Outstanding OP and I'm not afraid to admit that I'm extremely jealous.
