Hello, I'm new here and put this here because I think the people on this board will give me honest answers. This is my first post on tigerdroppings, and I will try not to make it an autobiography.

I'm an Arkansas boy living in Germany with my wonderful Frau, and we're coming in Oct. to visit family in LA. In a nutshell, we'll be in south LA around Lake Charles from the 15th to around the 20th of Oct. and want to get out in the country and experience the real Louisiana, small towns in Acadiana away from the proverbial beaten path. I worked down there some after high school (1978) and totally fell in love with the people and culture in south LA.

So if anyone has any tips on music, food, culture, or knows anyone who would take 2 (paying) strangers on a ride through the swamp, please reply or mail me at razorsteven@Safe-mail.net.

Thanks and have a good one.

Of course, I should have known. She's dark-haired and beautiful. But no pics...

That was probably a response you were hoping to avoid by posting here and not on the OT.

Wish I could give something useful but am not from the area so I'll let someone else help you out.

Someone posted what amounted to a food vacation doing this on the food board. You might search around there.

If you want to experience music, food and a great event, you need to move your trip up one week, Festival Acadien is Oct 12-15 in Lafayette. Free festival with all the Cajun music you can handle.

Ask him for one with mayo and mustard.

"You can't have both!!! Buy two and slap em' together!!"

Buddy was over there one evening and this dude rides up on a horse and ties it up to the post in the parking lot and walks up to the window. Old Harry looks at the horse, looks at the guy and says, "Hey junior, why don't you get the hay burner out of here before he craps all over my parking lot and you ride off into the sunset."

OP: That thread posted earlier is pretty solid, I would throw in a stop at Durand's in Mansura for some damn fine cracklings.

They have boudin as well. If you are looking for something to take with you to cook he has several different stuffed pork tenderloins that are absolutely delicious. I would recommend the seafood one.
