The shite show and arse whippings that would result from this legislation is mind boggling
Arse whippings are already happening, I doubt this will increase it.
You can't legislate away stupid, but it's been tried and will continue to be tried.

Nah bruh, it is his marsh
Because in 1812 Theophile Bordeaux with his handy spyglass marked the waterway he now owns as "Wasteland"

It's the only group even trying to get the water access crap straightened out. They are a group of volunteer sportsmen with real jobs and families.
BHA has gotten involved nationally. Their big guys may not be ordinary fellas, but the local guys are.

49 states got it right. Time for La to do away with / amend its absurd tidal water law. Me and Mrs. BB gladly pay 20 bucks a year to help out the vast majority who want this fiasco straightened out.

That bill is horribly worded and will never pass.
There have been trespassers and poachers since the beginning of time. Gates and laws will never stop them.
Gates are going up more than ever because they can by law and are taking advantage of it.

It’s a classic battle between wealth/greed and the common man. Unfortunately, the wealthy usually prevail with politicians! I hope I’m wrong.

absolutely if you ever want your kids to be able to fish in louisiana again.
public waters are regularly being "claimed" as private by just donating to the right politician, then you own your own private marsh land with all of our wildlife off limits to the citizens of this state.
you can be fishing in any bayou or marsh area in the state and suddenly find yourself ticketed and/or even arrested for trespassing because they dont even have to mark what is private anymore so they claim 10x more then they have any right to control and law enforcement tickets and arrests first and doesnt ask questions. their stance is, thats your problem if you are innocent and did nothing wrong, if you want to fight it you have to lose days off from work to go argue about it in court with a judge or you have no choice but to pay the ticket. and going to court usually means no less the 3 trips to court while they keep waiting for you to give up or they finally set a "real" court date to settle it

On a side note a battery powered sawzall will cut a 2 inch pipe at the water line in about 1 minute and 20 seconds. So in about 5 minutes total cut and drag off time there is not a gate in South Louisiana I have ever been worried about any dang way. And yall all know what I mean.

again, fish my land all you want, but don't mess up my duck hunting... but then, I don't run people off or arrest people for fishing

It's sort of true, maybe not exactly as described but calming state owned water bottoms is not uncommon and neither is the state claiming private water bottom. There are areas all over the marsh that are claimed by the State and the adjoining land owner. The State takes the "enter at your own risk" approach to those areas. Effectively making them private. It's not exactly quid pro quo but you get the idea. If you spend enough time running around the marsh, and I'm guessing you don't, it gives you the impression that most of these areas are being claimed by people with money and influence.

To answer the original question. The Louisiana Sportsmen's Coalition joinlasc.com is a group of volunteers that have banded together to try to rectify and clear up the laws in Louisiana that create and or deny access to the flowing waters of the State of Louisiana. For as many laws as there are that State that the landowners can post said water, there is one that says that the flowing waters belong to the State and or the State must go claim them as being part of the Public Trust. There are no paid members in this group. Your money goes 100% to the efforts of making our flowing water public.
As for the comments about this particular bill. Yes it was filed without consultation with this group. It was filed as a direct result of BASS pulling out of this State. However since it has been filed the group has been very actively involved, already offering changes to the bill to make it more palatable to all parties. Discussions such as not interfering with true water management projects, dealing with duck hunter concerns, etc.
If we do not start hammering out this issue now once my kids get my age there will be no public marsh to fish and my grandkids will want to know what the hell fishing was.

Please join Louisiana Sportsmen's Coalition. Louisiana Sportsmen's Coalition
Louisiana is the only state in America that allows property owners to claim ownership of waters that ebb and flow with the tide.
As stated on their website (link is above), the Louisiana Sportsmen's Coalition is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting public access to our waterways. I am proud to be a member of LaSC and I know that the board has spent last fall getting prepped for this legislative session. The website has been revamped and is a valuable source of information. Like us on facebook to stay engaged with up-to-date information. Both the website and facebook contain contact information for legislators. Contact them and let them know you support HB391.
