Do you know any grown ups that still don't know how to use a bait casting reel?

I see way more people using spinning reels and even a few that still use spincast to fish.

What is the difference between a spinning reel and spin cast? They are one in the same to me.

What’s a greater travesty is the amount of people who don’t know how to drive, or even know of the existence of, manual automobile transmissions.

Weird flex. What does it matter what people use to fish? I am exclusively team Zebco.

Everyone can figure out how to cast one, not getting it to birds nest is the trick.

If you don't have a need for a spinning reel then you are the child

I had to back up one of our subcontractors trailers a few months ago. Truck was a 2007 Dodge diesel with a manual. I did surprisingly well for not having driven a stick for years

Just saw a video where a guy was being messed with by his buddies for not knowing how to use a baitcaster

My son was an avid fisherman by age 10 and convinced me that he needed a baitcaster because it was very important to make the kind of cast he needed to make. He had it all figured out within a week and has never had issues.

Now at age 14 he thinks he's a professional so he convinced me to get him one of the fancy new Shimano's with the "computer chip" controls inside of it. He freaking loves that damn real.

technically a spinning reel is one with a bail and a spool that moves in and out to level line as it is re-spooled...also known as an open faced reel...hangs under the rod instead of sitting on top...the typical spinning reel that almost everyone is aware of.

A spincast reel is a closed face reel that sits on top of a rod...like a zebco 33.

There are closed faced spinning reels that some call an undercast...usually ultralight...I haven't seen one designed for more than 6 pound line in years.

A spinning reel should be on a spinning rod with a straight grip and at least one large stripping guide closest to the reel...the reel hangs under the rod. A spincast reel should be on a casting rod with normal guides, grip and sitting on top of the rod.

I'm 35 years old, and before I started bass fishing three years ago, I didn't know how to use a baitcaster. Now, I almost exclusively use baitcasters. I do have a couple spinning reels, but I dont typically use them. My wife normally uses the spinning reels, but recently I got get using a baitcaster that I set the brakes on, and she did surprisingly well with it.

I just think, once you get the hang of a baitcaster, its easier to make more accurate cast. Usually.

I don't use them as much as I once did....I use spinning reels almost exclusively since I left the SE. I know in Texas they use baitcasting reels almost exclusively...I have never liked using them for saltwater fishing because I don't think they are as durable as a spinning reel and the level wind mechanism on a bait casting reel is a disaster waiting to happen on sizeable fish who can smoke a spinning reel drag....add the friction of the level wind mechanism into the mix and there is just too much going on in my opinion. I have caught a lot of trout and redfish and some snook and tarpon on baitcasting reels but I prefer spinning reels for almost everything....

I've fished my entire life and always called a spincast a push button. Whatever, a spinning reel will always be called a spinning reel or spincast to me. I rarely use a spinning reel unless I am throwing small jigs on an ultra light for perch or sacs.

Lots of adults can’t cast one.

Took years of bird nests growing up to learn.

Spinning reels (open face to this coon arse) have their place though. I prefer bait caster when fishing bottom and ope face when popping a cork
