True, but it's not the same. The hold/grip is totally different.

Truth. I can pitch a bait all day, 20 yards at least with my left hand in a coffee cup but can’t accurately cast worth a damn. Can’t reel with my left hand, it’s just not natural so I gotta cast and switch. Why I pitch 80% of the time. Just do what feels right and 9-10 times it’s gonna be right

A quality baitcaster is far superior to a spinning reel

I use bait caster about 90% of the time. I use push button zen o to cork fish or if I bird eat my abu Garcia and don’t feel like messing with it. I haven’t bird nested one in about 15 years but there’s always that one time LOL

I bet you can't even cast a fly rod!

I haven't touched one in 30 years but I bet it would come back to me after a little time.

My dad loved fly fishing for bream!

Learned to drive a VW Bug with a stick, cast homemade tout tails with an Ambassador 5000C, reloaded shotgun shells with a MEC, mowed the lawn with a lawn boy, used a card reader on my HP41C, listened to CCR on 8 track with Jensen C10’s, and drank Boone’s Farm Tickle Pink and Miller ponies.

Now, I drive a car that can slow itself down when approaching other vehicles, throw live bait on a spinning reel, order steel shot online, have a yard crew mow my lawn, use a phone loaded with apps, listen to podcasts wirelessly, and drink Pinot noir and Guiness .....

Moral of the story: today, I most likely couldn’t throw a bait caster without spending all day untangling line ....

i have a friend who likes to buy manual drive vehicles because

#1 - she says no one wants to borrow it because they cant drive it

and #2 im not 100% sure i agree with her on

#2 - she says no one will steal it because they cant drive a stick

I own a baitcaster. Nothing fancy some Academy brand I picked up for under $100. I use a cheap Zebco 33 spincast on an ugly stick of some type for 99% of my fishing which is normally waking up early at the lake house walking to the dock with a cup of coffee and throwing a line in the water as I sip my morning Joe on the dock. I get just as much enjoyment out of the Spincast as I do with a baitcaster in this scenario.

A lot of people don’t fish often enough to practice and get good with a baitcaster and likely get tired of digging out bird nests, so they go with the easier option.

This. There is no greater joy than driving a manual, you feel and become part of the vehicle

I learned at a young age bc my dad was big into bass fishing. He would set up buckets in the yard for practice using different reels and different techniques.

Spinning reels are just easier for most people. Plus the wind is irrelevant when casting.

Don’t cast not the wind, simple fix my man. Set boat in correct position and cast down wind. Double your distance cast and puts less pressure on your fish.

Depending on the type of fishing that's not always practical, particularly in the marsh.

I like both reels, but as someone else said, if I had one for the rest of my life it would be a spinning reel (inshore saltwater fisherman).
