I'm probably gonna end up going with the Sig Sauer Buckmasters scope. I don't hunt enough to get some super expensive scope and I have read some really nice reviews on it.

My question is, what size scope do y'all prefer? Right now I have a 40mm on my gun, and think I may want to go to either 44mm or 50mm. I know some people prefer going with the bigger glass and others don't think it's necessary and sometimes you have to get a riser to make the bigger glass fit on the gun. Just curious what everyone's thoughts are on the subject.

I have a leupold 50mm on my 300 and rarely use it .
I use a Leupold VX-3i 3.5x10x40 more than anything and it’s bright enough for me. I have it right now and will be able to see deer until dark. It’s crystal clear and didn’t break the bank. I think it was 369 before Bidenomics.

I've heard some good things about the Leupold series too. It says it's on sale for under $400 so it's still not terrible. Something I'll look into, thanks.

The Burris E1 3x9x50mm is on sale for $135 and is normally $300. I just purchased one of these yesterday as it is a great deal!

europtic still has that trijicon huron for $299 that I think is the best deal going right now. a tad heavy for a 3-9 if that matters to you but not excessive by any means.

40mm is more than enough, nothing wrong with 44mm, but the jump to 50-56 starts getting to be too much

I have a 50mm objective 30mm tube meopta I’m going to end up getting rid of for a 40mm the difference in magnification between 6x and 8x at dawn/dusk is negligible, for the extra weight/height

I got a basically brand new leupold mark 3HD I'll sell you. Don't have anything to put it on. 3-9x40.

IMO, glass size and quality is largely irrelevant. The junkiest scope I have is fine during any legal shooting hours.

I have a redfield 50mm and it's fine, to just a bit bulky. Honestly from aesthetics perspective I think 44mm looks the best and serves function perfectly fine

I would look at the vortex crossfire or copperhead if you’re looking at the Sig scope, the vortex warranty is worth the 30-40 bucks

The Leupold vx-freedom line took the place of the Nikon pro staff, for about the same price it’s probably a better scope

Another vote here for Burris.

I have the Fullfield IV 4x16x50 on my rifle. Its a nice scope. Forgot how much it cost, but it had to have been less than $500.

I’m a 4-12x40 guy, if I had something I’d put it on I’d buy it.

This was kind of my thinking as well and was asking just to see the opinion of others. I appreciate the insight.

The difference between a 40-44mm objective scope and a 56mm objective scope is the ability to gather as much light as physically possible at a max of 6x power or 8x power (a 50mm would give you 7x). That’s it. At 5x or below they are equally as bright (same scope same line, some manufacturers have a little better glass that will be brighter)

If I need the extra 2x power to make out the deer, it is too far away and too late or too early to legally be shooting
