Longest for me. An honest 225 as measured by google earth. 30-06 as if that matters.I rarely hunt where I can see further than 250. I can see deer on a ridge from there at 450 but never shoot that far.

A lot of people just spend a lot of time practicing and shooting. If I am in a box stand with a good rest I feel comfortable shooting out too 500. The two bucks I referenced earlier I had ranged certain areas on the pipeline. When they come out you have an idea. Then to get exact yardage, when you walk up to them and they are dead you range back to the stand. The average shot distance I have is going to be over 200 yds. The feeders and corn are 200+. Even the stands I hunt down in the timber I have shooting lanes that are at least 200. I killed a 160in 9 pt this year though at about 80 yds. However, I have found if you keep the feed farther away from you or set up further off of main trails, you will usually see more deer. I dont understand the people that puts feeders 40 yds from their stand. TO me that is dumb. All you are doing is upping the chance for the deer to see you or smell you. When I bow hunt that is a completley deer different story. I enjoy the challenge of getting them close, but that is what a bow is for not a rifle.

400+/- (steps), .270, sitting in a plastic lawn chair drinking ML's. No range finder or other crutch. Only buck I've ever had stuffed.

And yes, I shot a lot throughout that year at hogs and other things. It helps for sure.

264 yards Remington 788 .308. Ranged from my stand to the spinner on my feeder. Popped a doe as she cleared the feeder. She dropped right beside a leg. I put one through the earhole of a bobcat at 260 +/-. Was waiting in my stand for my dad to get there. The bobcat decided to check out my kill. I shot, never expecting to hit him, just run him off. Rolled him up like a cheap tent. My dad couldn't believe the shot and was more impressed with the cat kill than the doe.

I agree on the practice. I put over 200 rounds through that gun at that distance.

Worst shot, missing an 8 point at 40 yards with the same gun. 16' in the air and way misjudged the angle.

350 yards with a 7mm-08 across a peanut field. Up until that point I had not hunted over a large ag field in a very long time so I decided to take the shot. It was pure fricking luck.

About 185. .270 Remington pump. Overcompensated in first shot due to only practicing at 100. Second shot I put the crosshairs on the top of the back and split the spinal cord. Straight shooting rifle and I admittedly don’t practice enough to know it.
