At what point is it no longer a fair chase. When I go fish Sam Rayburn all I see is boats out in the middle of the lake staring down at a screen, Whether it will work on shallow flats it probably will if you know how to set it up.

Every man's got to decide for himself. Research up on the omni sonar system the big sport fishers are using now. It not only finds the fish, it locks on and tracks them as well.
Tech is only going to get better and better. Won't be long before we have some glasses you can wear that basically take the water away and give you details of the fish you're looking at.

Fishing limits are gonna change (decrease) along with it.

Certainly. It's a self destructive spiral.

This.
Look fellas I don’t hate the ffs guys I hate the technology. FFS is helping guys catch fish that normally wouldn’t be caught. This will drastically decrease species numbers. I see limits being reduced due to over harvesting.

I could see this for bass fishing. But honestly, there's enough signs when inshore fishing the flats that I doubt it's that much of an advantage. Hell, they already call it sight fishing and all you need is some polarized sunglasses and an ice chest to stand on.

Yes I’m talking bass and sac au lait

I would like to see a lake somewhere make all electronics illegal. Like no depth finders or anything. Might not work out but would be interesting to see the reaction of the public and how it changes fish populations.
Iike would it lead to a bunch of fish dying of old age because they aren't getting caught. Also would make being a local and knowing the honeyholes even more of an advantage.

There’s no way using a cheater box is an ethical way of fishing but you fellas keep telling yourself that.
When you hunt do you only use a primitive spear? Or do you have a semi-auto rifle? Do you hunt over corn? Is that ethical? to me, FFS is no different. You still have to catch the little bastards. It doesn't put the fish on the hook for you. People who call it a cheater box, likely can't afford it and are constantly getting their butts kicked in the Thursday night derby at their local lake.

You baws and your reasoning.

Agree. I don’t like clutter, especially on the bow where I am standing to cast. I was thinking more of using one of the pole-mounted rigs about midship so I could use the screen at the helm

Ought to be as much a game changer on flats as anywhere. I haven't learned to use mine to its full advantage but what I have learned indicates it is by far the most impressive technology in outdoor gear in my 59 years.
Wow. That’s awesome

Asking in all sincerity, but what DO you look at all day when fishing? Your line? The water? To me there is no difference. It isn't like you're choosing to look at a screen over a naked centerfold. Its one boring thing or the other. At least with the screen you can see the fish you're targeting and figure out if you need to change presentation or not.
I go outdoors to enjoy outdoors. I envision using this to determine if an area is holding fish. Sometimes they’re on the flats sometimes not. There might be 100 docks to target. Only 10 might hold fish that day. Might take 6 hours to hit all those docks. Or three with good technology and we can spend the rest of the time tubing or at the sandbar.
I fish maybe 10 times a year max, and would like those trips to be productive. Once I determine the pattern, I frankly wouldn’t want to look at the screen much either. Rather look for bait busting, diving birds, or dolphins.

I assume all those disparaging FFS don't use live bait, right?

Don’t get me started on hunting and technology, that’s a whole different topic!!
lol on people not being able to afford it. If someone can afford to have a boat and go fish they more than likely can afford a cheater box.

Agreed.
I personally don't sit and stare at it all day. But where i used to roll up to a main lake point and throw a Carolina rig for an hour trying to locate which side of the point they were set up in, or if they were even there, now I can roll up scan for a few minutes and get to work on them. I still have plenty of time to watch for other signs, to see if they are blowing up bait balls shallow, to watch the bald eagles flying over. Now, I get to do all that AND catch fish in a shorter period of time, and then go back to the camp and pick up the kids for a boat ride, or tubing. The kids like coming on the boat with me more because we aren't spending 6 hours and maybe catching 4 fish. We can catch, and they can catch, and then still get back to the boat house in time for lunch.
I don't fish for $100k every weekend like the pros. You can bet if I did, I'd sure be staring at that thing, because the difference in $101k and $20k can be as little as 4oz over a 4 day tournament. See the Bassmaster's tourney on St. Johns River a few weeks ago.

You should go watch Randy Blaukat on YoutTube. All he does is bitch about people using FFS, and his bitchin' about it is absolutely impressive.

That’s where I got the term “cheater box” from. haha

My biggest complaint with FFS is I get to see the fish chase my bait then not bite it. In the past I'd just figure I was fishing a dead zone. I can't handle the rejection.
