Along time ago probably late 1980s, my dad knocked his gun over as it was leaning against the truck and it bent the the bell. He mailed it in and when they sent it back it looked like a brand new scope. I think it was, no cost.

Schmidt Bender, March, tangent theta, Nightforce, Kahles there is a long list of better. Whatever your checkbook can handle.

2.5-8x36 vx3

Under $500, extremely good glass, extremely light weight, adjusts very well. Its the perfect general purpose scope.

Yeah top notch. I had a vx2 tbat I sent back a few years ago they changed springs and some internals because I told them I thought it wouldn’t hold zero.
Currently waiting on a replacement pair of binoculars that they are sending me because the adjustable eyecups broke on my at least 17yr old pair. No receipt for either one just explanation from me on what happened.

I would say the VX-6HD is pretty much top of the line. Leupold is absolutely a premium product.

Was never a huge fan of leupold until the vx5 and vx6 lines came out. Great scopes.

I just checked it out on their website. I have never used anything other than 3-9x40’s or 3.5-10x50’s so is the difference between a 3-9x40 and a 2.5-8x36 going to be significant? I usually dont take shots past 100 yards.

Either will do. I like lower power stuff. I have 2 1-6 scopes, 1 1-8, 1 1-10, 1 1.8-14 and 1 2.5-15. I used to hunt with a 4-16 and have since then migrated to lower power stuff. You will use the low end far more than the top end. Anything within 100 yards, I don't go above 2 power unless I forgot binos and need to identify.

No. The smaller scope is of course, smaller. Its a bit lighter as well. Not what I would call significant in any way, but I have both and like the 2.5-8 more.

I have a Vari-X III 3.5-10 x 50, bought it in the mid 90s.

It's a great scope.

It’s what you get if you know your shite, want quality, efficiency of design, and don’t care about a long list of “features.” It’s the Tikka of rifle scopes.

They have the Mark 5 and mark 6 line. Not sure the difference other than the Mark line is FFP.
And there are plenty of people with very high end scopes. I have a couple Nightforce and a vortex razor.
Also have 2 vx5s.

Agree with a lot of that, but the reticle offerings in their hunting scopes are shite

When I hunted the woods a lot, I used a 2x7 Leupold to kill a bunch of deer. It sat on 2x most of the time.
Now that I’m hunting long lanes in CRP and field edges, m using a 3.5 x 10 and a 4x-16x a good bit. They often set on 10x and 12x when I’m hunting.

Scope quality has improved greatly, but I’m amazed at the number of scopes sold with high magnification, at up to 25x, to hunters who never plan to shoot past 300 yards.

I’ve killed a whole lot of game over the years using the Vari X III. That was a solid scope line.

Update just received my replacement binos a pair of bx2 to replace my at least 15yr old wind river pair. They also sent me the Leupold kangaroo style case. I think the one I bought last year was 35-50$

That confused me too. But I suppose there are people that hate every brand. Always gonna have brand loyal people I guess.

The larger objective can help you in lower lighting conditions. Maybe not so much 36mm vs 40mm, but that 50mm objective will collect significantly more light than a 36mm one.

I always had 40s and I was looking through that 50 outside around dusk and it was crazy how much more you could see than my cheap and slightly better 40s.

ETA: When I read about it, and the shop owner was explaining it, I thought it was just bullshite but glad I went with it, even though that giant front end cost me more in having to get new rings so it would fit.

Maybe the real expensive Leupold models offer different style of reticles but mine is a classic. I figured they would make them with marks for further shots, but I guess that locking ring makes up for it somehow. Still going through the manual and youtube videos on it.

I prefer the scope to be as close to the barrel as possible, that's why I prefer the 36-40mm. It seems to help me get sighted faster. Plus, it's not as bulky, won't knock into shite as easily. For me, anyway. But I don't shoot much past 100 either.
