Looks like an awfully expensive tent.

If I'm going to spend $10K on a popup, it's going to have AC.....

This isn't for places that have the convenience of a plug in power set-up. But I feel you. Especially living around the deep arse south, it's unbearable unless it's late october thru march.

Obviously I would love to have one, but everywhere I would use it, I could have a tent and grill and have the same experience.

don't see the advantage over a nice canvas cabin tent.

Different company but I saw them put the tent together in a min at the Portland sportsmens show.

Putting together a canvas tent takes time. This eliminates time.

I don't see the appeal. If you need more space, maybe upgrade to a bigger rig. The rooftop tent makes so much more sense from a setup and convenience perspective. And if I am overlanding a rig, I want to be able to park it easily and not deal with the hassle of a trailer.

Not really. You can detach these guys and place them as a base camp and still wheel around. Whereas, if you have a rtt on a vehicle you have to fold up shop every time you wanna move around. Not to say that I haven't been thinking about just a RTT due to price constraints. I still have to convince the wife after all. but really, far as convenience it would be awesome to have a vehicle not packed to the gills for a camping trip, and it would be super cool for my purposes to be able to detach it and go play in my jeep.

I get it, they're cool. Just from a personal preference I like everything to be self-contained.

I really want a retractable awning for the FJ.

Ive pretty much given up the offroad camper, I will just have a toy hauler and put a 4wheeler in it.

Once I get my Tacoma my next step is to get my deposit submitted for a GFC (GoFast Camper).

Add a Microair easy start and small 2000W generator and you're good to go anywhere....

I built mine on a Northern Tool 5x8 trailer. Cost me about $6K when all done.

Here's what I can't fathom OP, is how often does one really need to camp in a trailer off road? IMO, the comfort of being in a heated and cooled camper that I can stand in during the rain and stay dry completely out weighs the ability to pull something a couple of miles off road. Camp one spot, hike in or drive to where you want to go. Would save you a lot of money and comfort IMO.

I think it’s more where you live. If I lived in the eastern side of the Sierras I’d camp all of the time. Here, meh...rather have a boat that I could ‘camp’ on.
