Fully aluminum frame, no rust, lifetime purchase.

I have been eyeballing this unit for a good while. This particular unit run about 10k, which is going to sound insane to most of you here I'm sure. Let me start by saying these types of purchases aren't for everyone that likes to go camping every now and then. They are mostly for people who make a lifestyle out of finding places to go play in the woods and get away from the world. There are many reasons people buy teardrop campers or tent/gear hauling trailers like the one in my post, and there are about a million options out there. I've seen viable options that range between 7k and nameyourfkingprice... I have found none that really compare with this unit b/c this one is all aluminium, and therefore won't rust. This one is also insanely light weight. This is a unit that will last a lifetime of abuse, and almost anything can haul it b/c it's 550 lbs. There are a ton of similar ones out there, as mentioned before, that are made with steel frames and are much heavier and have a few more bells and whistles I feel are unnecessary.

I am bringing this back up on the OB b/c I am wondering if any of you have a similar interest or have even bought something similar. If so, what are your experiences? How would you compare them to a unit like this?

I can't justify the purchase at this point but think they look incredible.

The owner posts on a facebook group I'm in from time to time.. he seems to be well respected by people that have dealt with him.

This is the one I am looking at. Total price is going to run me around $30 K but you only live once. I have been caught in some fairly nasty snow/rainy conditions so something with a hard outer shell is more appealing for me. I can also place my kayak on top of it ............

Man... I have looked at the Moby units too... but jeesh... I think I'd go Schutt industries if I were in that price range.

Let me assure you. After a 60+ email chain I could not possibly endorse him more highly. He is every bit as reputable as your perception of him. He's just a "real" guy that does them all 100% himself b/c he doesn't trust hiring someone else to do it right. He's infinitely patient (with a guy like me with so many questions), and totally informative. Jeff is the guy's name. He'll chase a lead but he knows how to talk and not be pushy one bit. Not one question I've had was unanswered thoroughly.

At that price I would want trailing arm with coil over suspension the timbren doesn’t have as much travel plus with finishes and coatings that are available rust is not an issue like it was years ago galvanized the frame is cheap. aluminum is over priced for weight steel frame laminated honeycomb panels you could get close to that weight but you would have to build it.

You can get it without timbren (solid axle), but by all means it is superior with Timbren from all I've read. It has like 16 inches of clearance believe.. It's being pulled, after all. That said, I'd be optioning it without the timbren system. Just needs to work. I'm not planning on toting it thru moab.

Exactly and I don't have the knowledge or the means. Couldn't build it.

Conqueror 490

I’ve liked these for a long time. I’m glad to see they are finally in the US.

I don't see the advantage over a nice canvas cabin tent.

The timbren is not bad I just wish they had more travel and a shock did it have limit straps? I want to swing by there and check them out. The roof top tents are very comfortable and dry.

I've probably watched a thousand teardrop videos in the past few years. I think I'm going to build one eventually. The main thing holding me back is I don't really have a place to park one right now.

My wife hates me buying either format, of course. But, she endorses the teardrop style more than the aforementioned. I'm not buying it for her tho sadly. She's not an outdoorsy person... so I lean towards the utility of being able to haul however much gear I want (and a friend's too.)

Those are the aussie made ones? Like the patriot?... yeah, they're bad arse. But they fall in the price range of Bill Gates, too.

Exactly. I said I liked them, not that I could afford one. Maybe if I sold a couple of my kids I could.

The wife and I are looking at getting something. An AC is required because we will not be restricting ourselves to cool weather camping.

Considering buying a utility trailer and building it up the way I want.

We are a long way from making a decision.

A pickup with a topper would work much better. That little trailer is an attempt to make a Jeep more functional.
