I'm going to pick up an X Bolt in 30-06 today. I'm putting a 2-7x33 VXR on it, and I want to keep the rig light and get the bell tight to the barrel.

I'm on the fence between the Talley light weights and the DNZ 2 pc Hunt Masters. Are there any other options I'm skipping over? I haven't used either of these mounts, but I do have experience with the Game Reaper one piece and like it well enough. Just seeking any advice or experience the OB has to offer.

Probably won’t go that route. I like the idea of a one piece, base/ring combo like the ones I listed.

I just used a set of warne Maxima mounts. They are excellent. Not sure how the weight compares.

If you go with Talley use one size lower than what you think you can fit.
Example: Remington 700 with a 40 mm Leupold fits “Low” mounts.

With that 33 mm I think you’d fit the Ultra Low or xtra low. Whatever they call it.

I've been on the all one piece train for awhile now but those look solid. DNZ makes a good product and is very helpful with getting the right height to fit a scope without much excess clearance if you contact them.

Unfortunately the "lows" are as low as it gets in the two I listed.

I have several sets of the Burris xtreme rings.

I have the PEPR (one piece). I've been very pleased with them.

Ended up going with the DNZ HMs. They'll sit a touch lower and are a hair lighter.

I'll post a pic when I get it set up in case anyone else ever wonders about clearance.

I have DNZ Hunt Masters with my Nikon Prostaff 3-9x50. Love the way it fits on rifle.

Looks like you and I are in the minority here, ST1. I exclusively use Burris Signature Z rings (the ones w/ plastic inserts) and Weaver 1 piece bases. I've used the one piece rings/base in the past but didn't like the way they limited moving the scope frontwards and backwards. I couldn't ask for the Burris/Weaver set up to be more solid and reliable than it is.

Exactly what I have.

And I know it's petty, but I hate the bulkiness of the dnz mount. Looks like a toy.

Talleys are obviously solid

They're appearance, sure. But they weigh ~ 2-3 ounces. The HMs fit the bill for what I'm trying to achieve.

Scope and mount weight aren’t going to make much difference. Will you be hunting mountains?
If you want to cut weight, trade rifle for a short action and short barrel.
