I have been using a flexible ice chest for a while now. Works just fine, can keep 5 reds and room for some trout. Problem with it is the only place I have for it is in the bow hatch. 2 issues with that. I have to shake the bag from time to time to get the fish to the ice, and also the bag can get in the way.

Just looking at my yak tonight, I wonder if anyone has tried just using a thick plastic bag inside of the front storage hatch? Thinking I can secure it with a big rubber band around the lip of the hatch and just rest the hatch door on top until time to throw a fish in there. Advantages would be....keep more fish in the bag, possibly keep them cooler since they will be in the boat, and the low profile. Your thoughts?

That looks like it would work. I haven't been on any long long trips so I just run them on a stringer.

Eta: I have only been bass/white perch fishing in my yak

That looks like a pretty good idea except I would use something a little thicker like a plastic dry bag.

That may be a good idea to pitch to Ascend for a fish bag that fits inside and over the front hatch.

I don't think I have enough room between my seat and crate.

I don't think you'd have enough insulation. That ice will melt fast in that hot south LA sun. Would be nice if you could mold your own ice chest in that compartment.

Great stuff and flex seal should be mentioned

I use a stringer, it's quite the workout after a good day

Paddling my arse around all day is quite a workout. I don't need a stringer of fish to add to the tension.

I use a stringer or an ice chest like you have in the first pic. Not perfect, but it works.

I have an ascend and my bag is stored behind me. Along with my drink bag. I don't see the need for a crate. I don't understand why people pack so much stuff in a yak. It's unnecessary.

I always over pack. I've got too much shite in my hunting bag right now.

I agree with this, although if I'm using live bait I have the same problem the OP mentioned. Not team ascend though.

I've probably seen some of your fishing photos. Cheers.
