I want to replace my stock halogen headlights with LEDs but I don't want to be a prick who blinds other drivers. Is there a such thing as installing them without blinding others, but still get good light output from them?

With the amount of dudes running that rear-end "lean" with LED/HID headlights the only conclusion is that there's no possible way to achieve such a thing. Either that or they are too dumb to do adjust them properly.

What I've read indicates that headlight enclosures are made specifically for the type of bulb that they are supplied with - in other words, the light doesn't emanate from an LED in the same way that it does from a halogen bulb, so the reflector in the enclosure will/may not direct the light properly.

Yep. You’re supposed to replace the entire housing as well to do it correctly

It’s kinda hard to get brighter headlights but not be more blinding.

You need to retrofit the projectors into them

You have to change the housings.

"Adjusting them properly ", if they're still in the stock housings is a waste of time.

This is what I was looking for I think. I wasn't sure if there was a way to make it work in a projector meant for a halogen. Thanks guys

There are bulbs you can buy if you want to do it correctly.

Checkout theretrofitsource.com they have a forum and will tell you what bulbs you need for whatever vehicle you have.

Yes you can. Long ago you could not. Bulbs that have LEDs around the whole bulb are the ones that suck, glare, and piss people off.

Now they make them with a few LEDs in a strip that mimic the filament of a standard bulbs. The halogen housing is made to reflect that type of filament bulb so the new LEDs are good to go.

Look at diode dynamics website. I think they will have some info on it and you can look at there bulbs and other brands that are set that way.

You can not put HID bulbs in...they are bad like old school LEDs. You need a housing made for HIDs.

I have all LEDs in my 2018 f150 and 2012 E350 van.

Ok, this is good info.

OP, that will probably work and be easier/ and cheaper than changing housings.

Take a look at your light pattern before and then after you change bulbs. You can use a garage door or whatever. Patterns should be pretty close to the same, but brighter w/ leds.

Don’t get sticker shock good ones will be $$$

Also look on headlight revolutions site. I think they a vid comparing a bunch of them taking LUX readings along the way.

This is my truck with stock halogen on the right and the diode dynamic sl1 on the left (also in the fog)

If you have projector housings, the new LED Bulbs are much better than a HID “kit”. A halogen bulb has a linear filament whereas HIDs produce an arc. The LED bulbs do a good job of producing that linear light pattern and minimizing leakage above the cutoff or poor dispersion. Just make sure to go with a clean, white light. Not purple or anything silly.

They do make a slight hum due to their cooling fans on the Bulbs
