Is it normal for some dogs to love the rain?

This has occurred on more than one occasion and it drives me crazy! Today I drive up in a pouring rain and my dog is at the fence drenched and enjoying it! He has a covered area and a nice dog house and he's just chilling out in the pouring rain! Is this normal? He's a boxer and I love him to death, but this quirk of his is driving me crazy. I'm in my vehicle yelling at him to get underneath the covered area or in his dog house and he's just as happy as he can be. Of course, I have to let him inside because it's raining cats and dogs and now he smells awful! Please tell me there are other dogs like this because I've never seen anything like it before!

My old Maltese should have been a lab.
If he got out he ran for the ditch and would jump in.
Pool, jumps in.
Rain.. would run around outside in it.
He'd been a damn fine marsh dog if he wouldn't have been 5 lbs.
Some do.

I guess I shouldn't complain too much because he's a great dog, but he's the only dog I've ever owned (and I've owned several) that prefers a rainy day over a sunny day!

Why would you let him inside when he is wet?

My lab loves rain. But hates thunder

Dogs like being nasty. Its why they are called dogs.

Dogs do not have sweet glands. Water is a the way they cool off.

My lab loves water, but hates the rain. He will not go outside if its raining outside. He'll just stand at the door. However, anytime we're around a body of water he does everything he can to inch his way toward it and get in.

I had to keep one of my labs outside for a couple of years and when it rained he would sit outside the TV room window looking pathetic. He had the Taj mahal of dog houses

I have a beagle who does not mind the rain. He will go out the dog door when its raining. Now, the terrier mix and chihuahua do not.

My Husky/GSD mix and I get caught in a pop up shower now and then. He just does the same dog stuff when it starts to pour if we are outside. But, if we are inside the house and I think he may need to go out to potty during a drizzle, he’ll make a u-turn at the door and basically says Nope! LOL

Sounds like you’ve got a strange boxer. I’ve got two and they can’t stand baths. I even got them a kiddie pool earlier this summer to get in while we are at work if they got hot. It’s basically just a giant water bowl. Both freaked out whenever I tried to set them in it.
ETA: Boxers are some of the strangest and funniest dogs. They can’t stand a storm with thunder but will be barking their arse off at fireworks.

My lab loved to swim, but hated the rain or wet grass. She'd try to pee on the sidewalk if the grass was wet.
My labradoodle is 12 years old and still acts no differently if it's raining outside. It can be a pain in the arse, because she'll be soaking wet every time it rains.

My GWP does the same thing. Has a covered back patio to hang out under, but insists on just running around in the rain getting soaking wet. It's odd, but dogs are gonna be dogs.

How old?
When mine was a puppy she loved playing in the sprinkler & rain
She’s almost 10 now, is scared of thunder but will go potty in the rain.

I have a mutt, but the lab in him is most dominate. He'll get out and run around in a driving rain, as long as there is not thunder. One clap though, and he is in the garage or dog house.

My old lab (had to be put down at Thanksgiving) wouldn't even notice it raining if you were outside with him. He swam, loved a running water hose, thought sprinklers were the greatest invention ever.
If he was outside by himself and a single drop of rain hit him he would stand in the middle of the yard and try to wake the dead with his mournful howling. Even though he had covered areas and a dog house, he would just sit in the rain and howl. Walk outside with him and it was full playtime in the rain.
My current lab, 9 months, I am not sure he is smart enough to know it is raining.

FIFY.
But yeah, I had a beautiful yellow lab named Patton, and he could care less if it was raining buckets. He'd act the same during a heavy rain outside or the sun was shining and not a cloud in the sky. Lightning or thunder though....he'd skee-daddle inside with the quickness..

Looking after my son’s 2 year old golden. He doesn’t even seem to notice it’s raining.
We have a motion sensor sprinkler and it sprays him. Same thing. Not even fazed.
Lightning and thunder. Nothing.
Loves swimming as much as food. Haha!
